What did POE, exiles, or devs learn from Lost Ark? Anything? Nothing? Something?
As of right now, it seems like ya'll learned nothing from Lost Ark. Just saying. After 3.19. I'd title the next League: " What we learned from Lost Ark ". 100 people towns with hang out fields. Witcher taverns. Free hair style options. " I guess you're right. I won't bump this. Tho the old " LA is POE killer " thread is bloated. I just find it odd that the only LA thread was before LA started. & nobody really made a follow thread to talk about the take away, after all these 6 months. Yet I suppose they just kept bumping that old thread. Still their really isn't a good overview of what the exact take away of LA's mega trend was. The good & the bad. For bettering POE. Of 1 mill+ players leaving. Similar gameplay enough. Also POE is more of a mmo than LA was. I party with people from lvl 1 til lvl 80 for POE. Everyone didn't party with a single soul for the first 50 lvls of LA. Nor do you party anywhere really. Only for a few runs of town sittings per day. I'll end this thread early. Still wondering what the POE dev team's take away from Lost Ark's gameplay was. As Chris mentioned New World, not sure if he mentioned Lost Ark. 100 people towns with hang out fields. Tho its tough not to say some mmo stuff too, like POE is the top 3 game on the list of all the top 100 mmorpg youtuber reviewers, who aren't usually main'ing a mmorpg right now, so what does that make poe? Either a lazy niche game, or a dev team that doesn't get the memo of urgency to advertise features the right way. From Angry Joe standards. To Lazy Peon Rereviews.

What I learned from LA is that you can succeed while having glaring design holes with enough marketing and visuals.
I'm kidding I knew that already but you can do a great design class on LA that is mostly about implementation failures restricting future content because it isn't designed right, oh and my favourite copying concepts without appreciation for how they work. Not as good as Resi 6 though that is the *chefs kiss* of design lessons, I could do a full lecture course on it alone because its such a good example. |

" If we take in consideration the fact that they went from 1M players to less than 200K (because they still have bots) i don't think we can call that "success" precisely. What I hope GGG learned from LA is to think twice their own decisions, because the AN league mods addition is an abomination and I hope FOR GOOD they remove it and never touch it again. It's not that hard to say "Hey, we've been thinking about this change, we are gonna open a custom league with the change so you can try and tell us how you feel it", but no, it was a better idea to throw it directly as "core". I don't think they need to learn anything. GGG's success is already achievement unlocked. Went from couch programming to being bought by the larget game company in the world. What's there to learn anymore ?
Now it's just the bonus round, keep it going for as long as they can. Some (like me) may think their design principles are garbage, but clearly, enough people like it and play it to keep it successful. |
