Rework Death Penalty - Loose XP of/on CURRENT MAP.

I think its archaic too but I understand why its there, you are right that their design got completely away from them though and they have no chance at all of taming the beast now.

I've been here the whole time so i've lived through the transition so to speak and we used to tiptoe forwards in the early days then suddenly we started striding instead. Ever since we started striding the balance has been frankly awful, the fact we've reached a stage where players are farming thousands of invitations with cast on death is one of the most obvious design dead ends I can think of.

Its amazing in a way to have that kind of freedom to run that setup and I can appreciate it, but at the same time it means that the "risk vs reward" that Chris says every league as a marketing gimmick is well and truly dead. There is no risk the game has gone beyond SC to ultra SC because character death has such a tiny penalty.

Heist is the only time they have attempted to address this and i've never really got a ready on whether it was a success or not. Plenty of players hate Heist they really do but i don't know if its because of the reward structure or just because mashing V at a sequence of doors is pretty dumb.

They can never back pedal on this now though because they've let it persist for too long, its a wonderful lesson on how you can have a goal to design X but the customers without any particular intent force you to produce Y instead. It can no longer be fixed they just have to lean into it, and that kinda means the rest of us have to as well.

Basically because Heist is not part of the Atlas.

You can farm contracts for days, but this doesn't help with progressing your atlas in any way (passive points, farm towards end game bosses, etc). Heists are just currency generators. And it takes quite a bit of work to gear and upgrade your rogues, to complete heists efficiently.

I think it's just that times are changing. Almost all of the games I played growing up had EXP loss on death. So when I see it in PoE, I don't think anything of it. It's just normal.

Nowadays, it seems to be the opposite. I just checked out most other ARPGs out there, Lost Ark, Wolcen, Last Epoch, D3, etc. and it looks like they all have either meaningless or no penalty at all.

After that little bit of research, as harsh as it sounds, I'm gonna have to go with what some people said before: PoE is not for you. You can play literally any another ARPG in 2022 if you're looking for a game with no penalty.

i remember archlord online which had a penalty of 3% exp loss on death
but every highend mob gave you like 0.01% exp
so the grind was horrible and besides that the player died to desync he learned nothing except he pulled to many mobs.
same goes for poe death teaches nothing except the player plays wrong content
for his build

The official servers are still up so i could, i think ill just play PoE in the next league after having taken this league off.

also -1 to removing exp penalty, a better solution is out there somewhere though many of them unfortunately can't happen or are not likely to because it would allow many to simply pay their way to 100 not that you can't already with various high end exp maps/methods.

I'd really like a consumable item which takes up 2-6 inventory slots and must be carried on you to be in effect and upon dying is consumed reducing your exp lost or entirely negating it depending on the tier of item held at the time of death.

I was not trying to imply that, my bad if it came off that way.

I would actually argue that once you reach the endgame of Last epoch, death is more punishing than PoE's, since you lose out on the rewards that you would have gotten otherwise in the "Map" that you died, and still have to complete it if you want to progress.

Or you lose your "entry ticket" for the endgame dungeons, the potentiol of good loot in it, making you go grind for another entry ticket then.
