I wanted to reply some in-depth idea's and information regarding the manifesto, but this feels like screaming in a fully loaded waiting hall of a train station. Who's going to read it?
Anyway... About desyncs: While i was able to check some of the TCP-protocol (while it wasn't encrypted) I noticed that there is a regular ping-command. This command is virtually empty. Just a protocol byte, but nothing more. Wouldn't it be a good idea to add the players location (just 4 bytes more) to every ping request and answer? This way the worst desyncs can be detected within a second. Also add a visual sign that the player is (probably) desyncing. About elemental resistance: It still feels like a dirty hack... First the mechanism of percentages and a hard cap to avoid immortality. Then the items that have too much elemental resistances, so we need additional penalties. It just feels crappy. I like the armour system a lot more. No dirty hacks and caps there. | |
Lets talk about physical melee damage and melee builds in general.
I've been playing alot of melee characters here in Poe (4 characters lvl70+ in OB and 3 characters lvl70+ in CB) most of them were physical damage base( just because everyone is going for the elemental damage) and i'll tell you what are the problems that i face. 1. The lack of "on-critical" effect when you are using physical damage. I'm glad to see that you are planing to change that. Some guys before me suggested a different on-critical effect whit different weapon types. That is indeed a great idea and will make some weapon types more .. usable.. and will actualy encourige peaople to spend more points into melee-weapon passives. 2. The lack of critical chance/multiplier passives. Now it is impossible to get high crit and decent damage AND decent life if you are using melee. You want to make the melee-weapon passives more appealing? Put some crit in them... there are some passives that already do that. 3.Another reason why elemental damage is way more vialbe than physical dmg is the lack of ways for us to get physical damage boosts. You can get alot more elemental damage from auras + support gems + items. 4.Life leech... cap; low regen rate... i think you know what i mean. A simple Life Gain on Hit support gem does more for you than lets say 10% physical damage life leech from items. 5. Being able to survive. This is a huge problem if you are a melee user. Armour and evasion don't do much right now. It is very frustrating that when you are lets say level 73 you have 56% damage reduction and 4 levels later you have 50% damage reduction just because you have advanced in the game. I can't understand why a player should be punished just becasue he leveled up? Let me put it that way - imagine that you want to learn how to play the guitar. You spend 15 years and you practice every day. You have some nice guitar playing skills at that point - lets rate them 65/100. You spend 5 more years learning and practicing and SURPRISE you're skills are now rated - 60/100... why? its a mystery. It is annoying and it desn't feel right. Another problem that comes from the example that i gave is the life+armour/evasion : energy shield. You can have alot more energy shield with alot less passive nodes than life. And the armour and/or evasion rating that you gain from items does not even this difference. And not to mention the energy shield recovery rate... this is why the melee weapon passives are rarely used it is because the melee users must spend every single point in life passives. Using shield block passives is a good way to stay alive but then your damage is ridiculously low. And ofcourse this solution is imposible for 2h or dual wield. Okay so for thoughts on the on-crit effect of physical hits, I'm thinking it should be some sort of armor penetration effect.
Like say every time you crit with physical it reduces the enemy's armor by a percentage for a short amount of time, and this should stack just like shocks do :P, And obviously duration would depend on damage dealt just like shocks, so it would only be good for people if they stacked physical damage. The tree could also have something added to it like "% chance to have "Crushing Blow" (name I just made for it :D) on hit" just like shock and every other status ailment has on the tree to some degree. " I'm very glad to see GGG posting the manifestos, but there should be separate threads for everyone's sake. I'm happy to see that the melee issue is being considered and have seen many excellent ideas, active or passive skill gems, better life-regeneration and life-steal, more powerful melee only keystone passives, gear changes, etc., but I would like to say that I think the solutions need to multiple if at all possible. Melee should have multiple options for viability. Someone mentioned the removal of Resolute Technique which I disagree with, I enjoy that keystone. |

I'd like to see separate threads and responses from GGG. I posted on page 27 and read from there, nothing.
Still have heard nothing about the solo in 6 person party nerf. This didn't stop multibox boss farming. I have posted how GGG can fix multiboxing without nerfing legit solo play, but why post it a 4th time if it will just be ignored. Solo drops suck. I don't care about party play. I try to avoid them because of halting graphics lag. My graphics card is updated, have a SSD and 16 gigs RAM. I can play other games without this lag. |

Hum... I always thought the puncture effect suits on-critical melee fine, maybe not as is, but a lesser ammount per second. At least seems to me that it goes on the same lines of the other effects

In addition to your other item changes and map changes, I think you need to make a more reliable way to get Maps, because since we're all pretty much trapped doing Docks from 62 on, it gets very boring, very repetitive, and very stupid.
And no, buying maps from other players should not be the solution, especially with how much currency changes on an almost weekly basis. |
