You indirectly said that Candy Crush is the best game ever, because it's the most popular game ever - and you are using popularity as a measurement of quality.

I AM distancing my personal feelings. One of MY favorite games of all time, is Heroes of Might And Magic 2, but I wouldn't call it the best. Far from. I wouldn't call Candy Crush bad either. But to automatically call it "the best", just by numbers alone? Stupidity, in my eyes.

Following you logic, an easy game is automatically better than a hard game, because it will, from the get-go, in 9/10 situations, reach more players. Following my logic, there are more metrics than popularity to consider when a game is going under the loop. There's a reason why we have both "good" and "popular" in our vocabulary, and those two words do not mean the same thing.

Popularity does NOT equal quality. It's not that simple.

If its the most played game ever so be it, i called it the best. You still avoid to answer the simple question : what is the objective measure of good.

Your opionion is just that. The best doesnt mean the best for every one, it means its good enough for the most. I know popularity and quality is not the same thing but if you want to make an objecive statement about what is the best thats the only way you can point something out.

The best doesnt mean flawless, it means its doing its job better than anything else. In case of games its the one that the most players like to spend time on. What i like or what you like is irrelevant. Everyone will have his personal top 10.

And you still avoid the fact that you are mixing up "best" with "most popular".

Me and my soon-to-be wife have been shopping for car seats lately. Should we go for the "best" option, or the "most popular" option? I prefer "best", in this case; safest.

To answer your question: You can't measure quality objectively, unless you first set the criteria for what "good" is. That INCLUDES popularity. Best graphics don't decide if a game is good. The best story doesn't decide if the game is good. And neither does popularity. It's like saying Walmart sells the best products in the world, because the sell most of it. The ONLY reason why you are using popularity as a measurement of quality, is because it's the only measurable element, but you know as well as me (and the rest of the world) that popularity does not equal quality. Hell, both you and I can probably come up with "popular" products that were a freakin health risk. Are those "good" too, just because they sold "most"?

Popular games dont get popular if they are not good enough to become that. You used your example with Walmart wrong, it doesnt mean they sell the best products but it means they are the best store. Being the best doesnt automaticly make it the best for you. So even your car example fits, you are not looking to the best overall but the best for you with specific criteria. And yes the prducts you speak of are "best" if the risk was well known but people were still willing to take it. It means it was good enough to take that risk.

How anyone can be this wrong without seeing it themselves, is beyond me. How anyone is unable to see the difference between "quality" and "popularity" is also beyond me.

But have a nice day :)

For some people yes, for others not.
For me... I doubt it.

I played all the Diablo games. Even several thousand hours d3. I loved the difficulty in Vanilla. I loved mp10 solo hardcore.
It simply gives me no satisfaction anymore nowadays... But Poe does.

I am a very casual gamer today. I am playing strictly ssfhc... And every league I struggle to get to maps and rip anywhere in them. Most of my rips happened cause I was drunk/drugged or paying not enough attention 😁
But.. I love to play every (didnt play 1 or 2 of them I think) season.
And that never changed since beta. Im having fun. The game is hard (at least for me), it forces me to pay attention, to Plan ahead, to think about Offensive/Defensive Balance etc.. And I like that.
It gives me the freedom of choice regarding char building.
It SATISFIES me, when I achieve my Personal goals within the game (which are very low 😋) and thats the most important point for me.
Diablo does not. I dont think, D4 will do.
I am sure, PoE2 continues the path PoE1 started and therefore.. PoE and its challenge for me.

Peace ❤
