Please Change The Challenge System Back!
I also hate this new direction, but I have a bad feeling, that it will just get ever worse in the future..
The essences mentioned above are a joke, it took me almost 7 days /played for 4/4 there. But the shrine + monsters, breach wilds, etc, too much required pure luck this time. The only thing that can help, to focus on these luck based things from day 1.. We can call it 'grind', but it is not that kind of grind we got used to. Sure, You can force most luck on luck on luck events with atlas passives, scarabs, etc, but still painful. Oh, you can 'force' them, did I mention harvest bosses? Still waiting for my T4 seed. And these are absolutely not challenging. Did I feel 'I did it' when finally hit 4-mod rare essence for 4/4? Nope, just said 'fuck it, finally' and moved; after having my atlas set up for that for 2.5 weeks. While on mechanical, real grind, I can feel some result at the end, that 'I progressed again today'. I hate trading, I finished Delve on 38 due to the non-existent bosses, and it felt terrible, since today. But I can already see that I will be forced to buy a harvest boss, after I 'luck grinded' the rest already. All-time non-streamer luckless dropless rewardless tons-of-time-playing non-TFT-er 100% solo player.
So, it just turns out, we were lied to for years with the promises of a two-storied one PoE 4.0. All these worse and worse beta leagues, all these braindead changes, all lead to this. |

You know, what I'd like to see if they want to keep the RNG stuff is "this or that" for the RNG. For example:
2 Corrupted Essences OR Corrupt 250 essences. Basically have it so if RNG smiles on you you get the challenge much sooner. But if not, you are also progressing towards its completion the grind way. |

Oh, yes, the strict all/max this league was another issue.
Basically all but the Defeat Empowered Map Bosses and EGG was all/max. Which just forced all completionist to do lots of content, thanks to RNG, for lots of time. With all the luck factor this league, most shall be max-1/max like essences, harvest, breach, etc. I for instance really liked the last league's Boons of the Atlas III soft-EGG style as 3/6. You could decide to go delving, go blighting, go legioning, etc, still will hit the grind. All-time non-streamer luckless dropless rewardless tons-of-time-playing non-TFT-er 100% solo player.

It's very interesting because I have been playing quite regularly since around breach league and with the time I am able to put into the game I never really was able to push achievements much. In 3.17 it felt great and like I could possibly go for 40/40... and for the first time I did just that. That got me so pumped for the upcoming league that I planned to go 40/40 again.
Now I never complained about the grind/luck required in the past leagues to get 40/40, but this time around it just seems bonkers to me. Along with all the other issues this league has had so far there just doesn't seem to be the proper incentive for the added time investment required. Funny how putting something further out of reach like this actually makes people not want to do it. Hmmmmm | |
updating my post from earlier
I quit the game, uninstalled and now I feel great. I am only on forums to be a keyboard warrior. I quit at 9/40 the rest of the challenges just seem like a waste of my time. so I am done. |

I agree with all of you. GGG went completely wrong this time with challenges.
Im pretty discouraged because of the difficulty this league. Many of my clan-mates left because of these impossible challenges. |

Only a few times have they really been Challenges anyways.
I never considered going past 34/36 because it's nothing but a grind and I'd rather test out another build concept or just wait for the next league. I instantly hated when they changed the reward spots. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

I started going for non-boss challenges few days ago and to be honest, most of them don't look so bad.
They're orb of unmaking sink if anything, because you need to shape your entire tree to get the challenge off the list. You are not going to do 200 simulacrum splinters without a specific tree setup. Or covetous shrine encounters, or metamporph yada yada. Some are bullshit. I've been farming essences for quite some time as they are good money (sold my essence tab for 14 exalted on TFT after just 3 days of mapping). 8 essence monster happened once and I still don't have double corrupted one. Single corrupted is rare, let alone two. Harvest boss is bullshit too, this is just too rare to expect players to encounter in reasonable amount of time. This can be 10 hours of mapping but may as well be 300 hours. The other half of challenges are bosses. Whooping 7 conditionals and roughly the same number relating to "uber uber" bosses. Conditionals aren't bad because they teach players to interact with boss mechanics instead of just deleting the boss in 1 second with seismic trap saboteur. For most players even getting to 24 challenges will involve opening TFT discord and buying most of them. Especially the RNG ones mentioned above. But I can see burnout and 'give up' mentality. Many players are still rocking single digit and just quitting becasue their target is so far away. They need to change mentality, you are no longer at 10 challenges just because you have beat the acts. You need to open the menu, read what is needed and spec your atlas in a specific way. You better gamble at Tujen a lot and buy those orbs of regret, you gonna need them. |

Agreed. I try to push for 40 each league if I feel the challenges are reasonable. If it's conditionals/really hard to do, I will happily bang my head into it until I get it. Scourge I stopped at 39 because I told myself I could either grind that bleeping crucible for a couple weeks straight (I'm not a Tornado shot MFer and I don't play 600 maps a day) or just call it at 39 and go do something else with my time.
This league I started wanting to go for 40 again. But I now realize there's very little chance I will see double corrupt essence (I'm personally against buying challenges or carries for myself), which in turn is making me say Atlas Grinds probably not worth it, which then turns into "Prob don't want to go find Aul since I'm not getting 40 anyways and Delve with AN mods is a nightmare." Ironically, if the super RNG ones weren't in there, I'd actually go through all of that just to hit my 40. Challenges should make you feel like you accomplished something after getting it. It should NOT make you think, "Oh thank god that one is over with..." These are supposed to be achievements, not chores. If GGG's goal is to make me play less, well they're doing a pretty good job.
