Casual player feedback on challenges 3.18
|
* My perspective:
I am a casual player who has put in just over 2k hours since abyss league. Most challenge leagues, I have finished at least 16 challenges, and in the leagues I enjoyed more I've finished 24 challenges and in 1 or 2 leagues even 36. After acts and a while into mapping, the challenges are what keeps me entertained, reaching goals and progressing. When I reach a point where I feel like most challenges left are near impossible with my investment, or plainly boring or grindy, that's when I quit and await the next league. * Feedback: I am currently at 7 challenges and when I look at what challenges I have left, most (if not all) are too grindy or difficult for my level of investment in the game, in a way that feels unbalanced and frustrating. And I will explain why: Most challenges this league involve completing several steps. Some steps within one challenge are easy, while one of those steps is incredibly hard, or low random chance. With my investment level, I can partially complete most of these challenges, but the final "most difficult" single step in each challenge feels near impossible, which puts me in a place where I can't fully achieve any of them, and thus, have nothing to progress towards. On a side note, I would also have to greatly respec my atlas tree several times for a chance at completing some specific challenges, partially removing the "choose your favorite content"-aspect of the atlas tree that I love so much. If the challenges were divided more by difficulty than by theme, I could still have something to progress towards. Also, the uber bosses are sure worth a challenge spot for truly invested players, but as a casual player I would still love for the regular versions to be included in the challenges. The regular versions are hard, but more within reach for casual plebs like me. Last bumped on Jun 2, 2022, 3:27:07 AM

how does a "casual" get a mageblood 2 weeks into the league?
|

" Literally anyone could get lucky and drop one, it's in the global loot pool & any lvl 75+ mob can drop one. |
|
" It dropped in a harvest and yes i frikkin dropped my jaw and my half my sanity as it did (since I almost missed it and went back to hideout). I still can't fully comprehend that it happened and I am certainly not using it to it's full potential. Last edited by Cilutan#3622 on May 26, 2022, 10:47:20 AM

I feel this so much, it was one of the things for me as well that I engaged in mostly after completing the content I was aiming for, and honestly I liked that some of the challenges forced me to spec into different things in order to be able to complete them, but at least it felt doable once I was invested in them and it let me experience content that I normally wouldn't have engaged with while giving me a goal within that frame to work towards.
This time around, as you said, there are often at least one or two things that seem near impossible to do without getting incredibly lucky or no-lifing the game, which feels just hugely frustrating to the point where I literally don't care about challenges anymore. What I'm missing this time around are some more options within the challenges that are more easily doable, like having 6 options and we'd need to complete 4 of them, so there's some flexibility for people that are not able or willing to the uber-endgame stuff while keeping more difficult options for the people that care about them, so at least we're able to do most of the challenges and still have a sense of achievement, while a couple of the more grindy or difficult ones are reserved for the most hardcore of the gamers out there. Sorry for the long rant... just felt the need to vent a bit more about this topic :-/ PS: congrats on the mageblood, that's awesome :-) Last edited by y0rm4m4#5413 on May 26, 2022, 10:48:57 AM

The atlas tree shuffling is my biggest complain for the challenges.
I gave up on the league already because it is pointless, but challenges that cannot be completed without atlas focus is just annoying. I have a problem even with the "uber" bosses to be gated behind Atlas tree specialization. If you collect fragments to get to the boss, you are now supposed to spec a point on atlas tree to get extra challenge? That is so awkward when compared to previous systems. I get that PoE is ever evolving, but it seems like an unnecessary obstacle that serves nothing. You just burn your sespect points currencies. If it is supposed to give Regret Orbs and Orbs of Unmaking some new value, it seems more like a joke. I represent only myself, my own thought and believes. I am individual, not a representative of the community.
I am not speaking on behalf of someone else and I don't get offended by things that have nothing to do with me. 3.13 was the golden age. |

Challenges to difficult?
It’s like they have the word challenge in them 🤔 Mash the clean

not difficult. just time and currency consuming, since u can buy everything and the rest is rng.

It's typical ReReRe mentality, "oh shit to many people actually had fun in 3.17 and got 40/40. Let's bring back the twelve layers of RNG and fuck everyone in 3.18, that's fun, you are having fun, this is a buff because of fun."
Why I liked last league was because there was almost zero RNG to the challenges, just grind and most of it was deterministic. Right now I'm working on harvest, mainly because I am trying to craft something, I moved atlas passive to support this and I'm getting very few 5 crops and none are not wilting, but I keep getting 2-3 no wilts in every 3 or 4 crop harvest. When I talk about RNG, that is what I am talking about. I know some people completed that challenge on day one, but some people will go the entire league with full harvest points on tree and not get it. That's not a challenge, it's just retarded. I like the idea of some of the challenges because you have to be truly invested to finish them and I am fine with that, but stupid luck should not be the reason someone gives up on working on challenges. I would rather be told "get gud" after failing a skill based challenge then be told "just grind 3600 more X until Y spawns and hope it doesn't have some stupid ass archnem crap that insta gibs you" |

Most of the challenges are simply heavily luck based, on purpose.
Very few of them are actually hard, rest just requires several layers of luck. For the usual sharers / leechers / rotaers / beggers / etc luck is not a factor anyways. Sadly, this new way we got back to is a huge step back and the worst for us regualar players. All-time non-streamer luckless dropless rewardless tons-of-time-playing non-TFT-er 100% solo player.
So, it just turns out, we were lied to for years with the promises of a two-storied one PoE 4.0. All these worse and worse beta leagues, all these braindead changes, all lead to this. |
