Converting regular tabs to quad tabs

A lot of decisions by GGG seem irrational (for last recent one see Archnemesis "UI"), so I am not sure if "If it was possible it would exist" is an argument here.

I don't know shit about the internal implementation of course, but it shouldn't be that hard to merge data from 4 database tables into a new one

You would think so, but if it was easy the would have been selling the option from day one of quad tabs being launched, and if it was something that they could do fairly easily then it would have been done, because why lose the chance of basically free money for them.

Considering the implementation crutch described above by cronus (it kinda explains more laggy stash browsing in standard), it may be not that easy, but even if it could be done by making 4 regulars remove-only (as i understand it, it would be altering tab data itself without touching any items) in whatever order they are obtained and adding an empty quad, i'll gladly pay for it.

As for that "if it was easy/free money" argument, sure, printing some refurbished cosmetics sounds way safer than tinkering with ye olde database, and as a bit of a programmer myself i'd prefer to not touch any working legacy code unless absolutely necessary. However, fossil/fragment/drop stacking was "not easy" too, but it had been done, hehe.
