Answered thread about poe2 gem system
do they really want to get rid of linking sockets? why do they needlessly remove some features?
afaik the reason for the skill gem change has just been to remove the dependency between skills and gear. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

" With this rework, links would have to be more available, I think. Imagine if the links on your chest disappeared when you attempt to corrupt a level 21 gem and fail. If it was hard to do, instead of getting married to the item as we have now, you'd get married to the skill gem. That said, not sure if this is good enough either, as both systems restrict experimentation. I'd personally prefer it if they just detached the links from both gems and items, you'd have some kind of a gem framework you could put into the gem interface and it would give you the links. And dunno if they should even have color restriction for support gems, seems like a pointless annoyance in the new system. Honestly, I feel they could do much interesting things with the socket system. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

" your idea of decoupling the gem links and socket properties from gems and gear has merits and imho is the way they should go. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill!

" Yeah, I mean, the current justification for socket colors is that off colors can raise the value of the item because they're hard to get. And I agree there could be value in, say, a high ES chest with 5 reds because there are setups you want that for. But an arc or tornado shot gem with all red sockets? If there's value there I don't see it. " yes, the socket color only really makes sense when it's bound to gear. and if they attach sockets to gems, it doesn't make sense to enable colors for support gems which don't support the gem. to make it worse, if gem sockets are bound to your character (not on gems or gear) it also makes no sense to roll different colors on sockets except if they bind char classes themselves to str/dex/int which would hurt build diversity. -- it will also be interesting how they will handle the importance of non-influenced gear once links are gone. my guess is they will need to make life+res rolls much harder to get to give it some value. age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill! " This had so much potential. You just needed to end that sentence with "guy". I still read it in my head with the South Park version of a Canadian accent. ![]() Thanks for all the fish! Last edited by Nubatron#4333 on Jan 5, 2022, 6:18:25 AM
