Look at Titan Quest on how to properly make auras.
In TQ auras are neat but yet distinct and they don't hit your performance because, guess what, they are optimized.

Got a pic? From what I remember they are just colored glows. That would just take us back to square one. Big glowy blobby effects isn't the direction we want to be going. Sure some people liked that but its not really where I want poes world to head. Once theres too much glow yay happylandness theres no way to go back.

Tried to look up some auras but here is the gist:
![]()
Spoiler
![]() ![]() ![]() A bit of a mix in the art style does a lot, but they could be simply 2d texture that spins a bit. Warcraft 3 auras are a good example of this. I do like some aura styles, but currently they are all swirls and it is a bit too much (cheesy?) (still better than it was!!!). Now here is an idea same 2d stuff (ignore the blur effects etc.):
Spoiler
![]() ![]() Notice how these are made up of multiple shapes* (triangle, circles etc.). Now lets say Angre and Wrath are a triangle and a circle (prolly all 3 dmg effects a circle for consistency) and they would fit together in one graphic? The overlap tuned towards one another as shown in the pictures? Even cooler would be that the color depends on the gem color, just like the flash effect you have when gems level up (red green mix up to yellow, all 3 means white). 2 blues 1red 1green white blue-ish? The latter color thingy only if it does not screw up the fps. I would keep some swirls (grace, clarity, vitality) but others might do well with this simple 2d texture projected on the ground? I still don't think people understand why we changed them. They turned your character into a glowing disco. This was both laggy and looking cheesey as. I love Warcraft so yes I know what their auras look like. However their auras are EVEN BIGGER than our old ones. If you havnt noticed the thorns aura is pretty much a high res version of the warcraft thorns aura. Thats fine however because its only on monsters. You need to be able to instantly tell what auras the monsters have on so thats how its stayed. Players however its less important as its a buff .
I know people like glowy mushy big cover your screen effects but that is not the place for auras. The smaller we make auras the bigger we can make combat effects. Never the less im sure someones going to tell me how lazy and amateur I am no matter how many times I try to explain this :P I like all the fluffy animals[img]http://i.imgur.com/mO8dR.png[\img]

If you devs copy paste Diablo2 that much than also copy their aura mechanics. But I doubt anybody of you ever went deeper into D2 modding than using already finished tools.
D2 handled it that way no matter how many auras were active in a party like 8 paladins each aura had an interval of 8 seconds till it changed to the next one. And if you look at your laziness this would welcome you since it would require zero work from you and 20-30 lines of code from some other dev. So in short all you have to do is to let the client add active auras-->Done via active aurascreen and statelist on other players. Then you go from first aura ID load it for 8 seconds unload it and load the next and repeat that. No Discoballs max 6 different auras on screen and everybody is happy. " So you turn combat into a disco :( |

lol, Ozgwald's reference blows on every way, nothing to be taken into serious.
After I read a lot of feedbacks regarding auras I was pretty curious what they would look like, and checked some some of them, bitter truth is they are indeed cheaply and rushed works. At least old auras had some character, what we have now are generic and badly done auras... Wish you actually would do the same stuff for gem visuals, instead of auras. I still could not get used to most of gems, still I must read gems' title to seek one certain gem from my stash ! But the worst thing is your stolidity really reaches at highest peak of it ! If you won't ever change it then why the hell you are asking to community ? Asking community for the sake of it = to make a fool of people! Now if you won't change them back or re-do them, just stop now taking feedbacks for the sake of nothingness ! I'm pretty pissed off not cause you did auras in a way I dislike but your unbearable unresponsive attitude which has already happened in gem visuals' change. I have nothing more to add, really... Edit: " Wholeheartedly agree, just look how cleverly even a more than 10 year old game handled back then. "This is too good for you, very powerful ! You want - You take" Last edited by BrecMadak#3812 on Apr 8, 2013, 7:58:35 PM

If it was me, I'd just cut the whole thing at the roots, remove aura stacking. No more disco balls, no more balance problems with elemental attack skills, no more 6 aura 'elite players' and no more whining about 'overpowered' Inner Force and Eldritch Battery.
Choose one and choose wisely, if you want multiple auras play in a party. Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
