Wukong reference in POE :)

Hmm, not seen this staff before, looks interesting. Just loaded up my marauder to have a look at his stats, and at lvl63 with not so great gear, I currently have 417str, 167int and 155dex. Im sure that a higher level marauder gearing and speccing stats could reach something like 800str, 400int and 400 dex without too much trouble, probably more with a well rolled astramentis.

Lets say 1000str, 500 dex, 500int is achievable for an endgame marauder specifically building/gearing towards using this item. Thats 1000% increased physical damage, 50 increased attack speed, and 25% increased aoe. Immediately I am thinking this would be crazy for cyclone, leap slam and groundslam. Then consider added fire, wrath, anger, hatred - all add damage scaling from physical, and this starts to have crazy potential. As someone said, it's like Facebreakers with the benefit of using any melee gems that are usable with a staff.

I had no idea LoL had the monkey king in it. I guess he was a bit of a legend.

I was raised on these stories. Wu Cheng'En's 'Journey to the West' is a tattered tome on my shelf.

That and 'Monkey' (a Japanese show based on a Chinese legend about a band of unlikely heroes going into India dubbed into hilarious English) is very, very well known here in Australia. For some reason the show never made it to America, at least not in any widespread sense.

Actually the reference comes from WC III DotA,which has an item called "Monkey King Bar"

I refuse to consider such a derivative usage of a classic as the source of a reference.

Saying that it's a reference to something in Wc3 when I've already clarified the true source of the item is ridiculous. Sorry, but it really is.

Even if the Diamond creator themselves was thinking about LoL or Wc3 DOTA, the original source is Journey To The West by Wu Cheng'en. Have a look when that was written. Hint: several hundred years before computers even existed. I know, real history can be scary and people prefer to just see it repackaged in video games, but sometimes you have to acknowledge it.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

you misunderstood me.What i meant is that LoL is a game based on WC III DotA,and that game has a Wukong reference in it,so LoL probably wanted to make a reference as well,i wasn't implying that WC III was the original source, that is just plain stupid :)
WC III DotA has an insane amount of references, the bible, norse mythology, demonology,an item called Necronomicon, like the book by H.P Lovecraft, references to Diablo, greek mythology, and even a reference to the TV show Firefly

Ah. So.

LoL copied WC3 DOTA, which merely drew on the ubiquitous figure of Monkey/Sun Wukong? Fair enough.

Although to be honest, I have no reason to believe LoL directly copied WC3 DOTA anyway -- Monkey is a legendary figure outside of any one video game, after all.

Therein lies the solution to any misunderstandings anyway. Whether it's Dragon Ball, The Forbidden Kingdom or that horrid anime Saiyuki (which in turn means 'Journey to the West' in Japanese), the original story of Monkey, Tripitaka, Pigsy and Sandy (to use the Monkey magic names -- there are many names for them all) is all over the place.

We had our own variation of the same classic tale as well (<- Korean, grew up in Seoul and now in Chicago), and slightly altered spelling of his name to fit Korean phonetics. Glad to see such classic references in POE.

Everyone and their mother have made a reference to the Monkey King nowadays. Gotta say though, LoL was the first thing that came to mind since the name Wukong was used over the Monkey King or Sun Wukong. And I don't even like that game, being a Dota player. On that note, I doubt they copied it from Dota. Monkey King Bar is pretty obscure (at least I didn't realize it for years), and if you are new (or racist) you could easily confuse it with Black King Bar.

Wukong was a champion made as a tribute to asians as the game released to the asian market.

I don't think this staff will be used for sweep or leap slam. Perhaps a build for AoE? Traps, Cold Snap, Ice Nova
