Need clarification on Chaos Mastery

I think it's really good with Herald of Agony and skills you cast every once in a while, like ED and Soulrend.

Since it does not count as damage taken, ES recovery should be active in most cases.

they mentioned they added flat life gain on hit on shadow era so this could also work with CI builds and flat life gain on hit even 1. if you need 10 casts to commit a suicide you wont die because of the life gain on hit.. right?
and the consume 10% while i think that 10% is too much for using it on fast skills and therefor doesnt make much sense to make it 10% but on quite a few spells the ES leech + ES recharge will cover it up
does this game even process numbers smaller than 1 for things like life?

my presumption would have been that it would round it to the nearest whole number. why dont we reserve life as ci? if the game can recognise and keep track of a % of 1 life why havent we been reserving 90% of our 1 life with auras?

maybe im wrong but i would have presumed it will either do 0 damage or kill you with 1 cast.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

still a suicide button if so and a poor design to have a keystone ruin masteries completely for an entire archetype

There is metric fuckton of things that dont work together. Its not "poor design". All it means is you just dont take it with CI same way you dont take CI with EB or like you dont roll flask mod that takes your life.

keystone potentially making 2/3(its still unknown on the +1 pick)of the masteries irrelevant for an archetype is bad design as it significantly limits choice. This isn't just a gear mod, or a different keystone, this is a major chunk of the newly reworked passive tree being made irrelevant with 1 passive point.

E: for clarity there is 1 always irrelevant with CI chaos dots that aren't poison, so it would leave masteries to 1 choice making going into chaos nodes just feel bad.

the real question is CI, will that %life cost immediately delete the character.

It's 10% of 1 life, so assuming you got no life regeneration, you have to use chaos skill 10 times to commit suicide.

Decided to check how it works in-game and with CI you actually don't lose any life. I was sure you would, since life lose degen from Berserker's rage works this way –
Spoiler

Turns out this fraction feature is specific for over-time effects, which allow them to work properly. https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2134080#p15490256

So regular instant effects can't interact with fractional numbers. Like LGoH can't fill half of 1/1 Life that was degened by Rage. And the chaos mastery likewise can't make you lose a part of 1 life.
It works without Problem as CI and Herald of Agony is now more easy to reach lvl31 without rare amulett/ shield/ weapon.

With Skin of ghe lords and 500 k ehp for example the arachnophobia allstars convert 100% Chaos for 21M (and more..) HoA damage
