From what i´ve seen so far everything that worked in 3.15, will do fine in 3.16.

I do wonder if FR totems will survive. Not putting them into the development manifesto parts is a mistake if they are tearing it down. Too many people played it to let them wait until patch notes.
Thanks for all the fish!
Well, you don´t. And that´s it. Who cares. Play the game and you know over time.
It works or it doesn´t.

the harsh reality is that you need some time with the game, playing, studying builds, looking at other peoples builds, until you develop the necessary experience and knowledge to determine what is gonna work and what isnt gonna work. being able to tell when a build showcase or guide is a noob trap is not something you can do without indepth knowledge

one thing i can tell you tho, is that for a large subset of builds, you wanna do early game as some sort of leveling build. this is in order to avoid this experience you had trying to level with cyclone. so my suggestion is to look for build guides that also cover leveling in detail, and doesnt just provide and endgame tree and items to look for.

but you are probably gonna have to run into a couple of walls, but as long as you analyse what didnt work you will learn something for your next attempt.

one thing i can suggest for you to play, that i know will work unless its absolutely gutted in the 3.16 patch notes, is to play toxic rain. there should be a bazillion good guides for it and its a skill you can play from act 1 until endgame, cheap to gear out to be able to tackle endgame content, and fun to play.
so what you need to actually learn, is how to look at build guides at a glance.

i literally found this in 10 seconds, from the forums.

https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2591825

Step1 : know what class/ascendancy. Cyclone, the most popular is duelist -> slayer

step 2, again, a guide with a lot of pages in the thread.

i quick glance over it. he's got all the important things:

a POB link
bandit + pantheon choices
gear, with stats to look for.
levelling section with skill gems.

the story is something most of us have done DOZENS of times. we can sleepwalk through it. it's literally 'whatever shitty skill gem i have available, in whatever weapon does the most dps'. when you get to cyclone, you probably want to use a 2hander just because they do so much more damage than a 1h. link it to melee phys support and fortify/brutality support and slap things until they die. keep upgrading your weapon as you go.

It's easier to learn through failure if you're both willing to spend that time on failing while also recognizing the value of it.

What did you learn from the youtube build expereince?

My guess: dont just throw in a PoB and think it'll work. It won't. [Removed by Support]

Dominating blow guardian is pretty solid overall if you want to try anything else. Good clear, solid single target on a budget, moderately fast and quite tanky. Downsides are probably getting used to getting into the middle of things to slap enemies around to make minions and end game bosses have a bit of ramp with the dps since you have to smack them to summon minions.

Acts 1 and 2 are kinda meh but once you get dom blow with some melee splash and decent attack speed its on.

More on topic the unfortunate part of this game is you have to screw up alot to learn what you enjoy playing. Like with dom blow maybe you find running around trying to smack things annoying and the build is unplayable for you. Sadly there isnt a way to know until you try it yourself. There have been a few builds I have watched streamers play and thought wow this looks great and fun! Only to hate the playstyle myself once I was actually clicking.

This is so frustrating.

I did a search on YouTube, Google, and even on these forums. Since I have NO idea what to look for, I just tried "PoE 3.15 Cyclone build".

Many popped up, so I went with one from the forums that had a bunch of pages to it like suggested.
There was no "level with X gem until Y level then swap to Z skill" ect ect. A breakdown on HOW to level until you can use the skill. I suppose that comes with experience in the game? Which I don't have.. which IS Why I am looking for a guide.

Whatever, I winged it. The skill tree didn't have a breakdown so I just winged that as well. I finally got to lv28 to use Cyclone and it felt HORRIBLE. So bad. I would be hitting a random mob for 5-8 seconds. Not a blue, nor a boss. A plain ol mob. I worked my way up to 30. I was mid way through act 4 and I just called it quits.

Unequiped my uniques and deleted the character. Less then 3 hours played but it just felt so bad I couldn't even consider going any further.

And that was just a test! I was trying to get an idea how to find a build and level it for 3.16...

It is just so.. frustrating. I understand veterans love the skill tree but it is such a deterrent for newer people that I don't know up from down. To the point I need to find Guides for it.. and even finding the guides are a pain in the balls.

That website I mentioned earlier, that someone said not to use because of real money trading. It is still the best formatted guides I can find and I REALLY don't want to use that site because I don't think the builds are all accurately represented..

I am just venting. I am bored, it is my day off of work. Trying not to look at pawn.. and I have nothing to play. Just.. frustrated how complicated a game is to play.

For first time players, PoE can be very hard.
One problem is that nobody tells you important newbie stuff.
Almost all the posts in reddit and the forum expect you to already know stuff.

Here is my "most important info for first time players"

1) Unique items should be AVOIDED, unless they provide a specific thing that your build needs. Rares are usually the way to go.

2) Defense defense defense. Most common mistake of first time players is to put all your skill points into offense. Life and resits, life and resists, life and resists. At least one other form of defense, armor, evasion, block, high life regen.

3) Melee is hard! Not all playstyles are equal, FOR FIRST TIME PLAYERS, melee is by far the hardest, followed by ranged attack non dot builds, followed by spell non dot builds, followed by dot builds, and minions are easiest. Seriously, try a ncecromancer summoner, and it will feel like a completely different game, it is so easy to get through the campaign with. The reason dot and minions are so much easier as you can do damage while running in circles, its that simple. And minions provide insane defense too.

4) Attack builds base their damage off of the weapon dps (with some exceptions)
So leveling attack builds means you have to replace your weapon every few levels.
Spell and minion builds base their damage off the gem level, so you get stronger just by killing stuff.

5) Loot filters are not optional. I recommend Neversink
Know what your target end game is. If you will be content being able to take down A8 Sirus then most popular builds should be able to get you there. If it's Feared then you have to be a lot more selective.

Rule of thumb for me to discern a decent build is seeing how it performs on DPS /survivability/mobility where you want at least 2. For example a snipe skill with 20m DPS is going to be crap if it only has 5k life with no layers of defence where as you'll get way further if it was on ele hit for example. If you are playing crackling lance you will need decent damage while also being built like a tank.

Also reddit is good. Not the main sub, that one is trash for trying to understand the game and you see so much terrible information there. r/pathofexilebuilds is a lot better.
