The perspective so many of the jaded old dogs on these forums need to hear...
" PoE2 is just an alternative campaign mode, leading to 19 new ascendancies in as of now unknown ways but both - PoE1 and PoE2 - share the exact same endgame and mechanics. Calling it PoE2 is like a marketing gimmick, its not a stand alone game playbale alongside PoE1. Both are the same thing, except for the campaign and ascendancies. Thats at least what we know now. |

" Some will always see anti-power creep changes as "devolving" or "regression", because they always want more and more power. And hence; everything that doesn't make you stronger, is a step in the wrong direction for them. As for people able to think beyond that; sure, we all have out preferred (subjective) vision for where we want the game to go. It's very important to think longer than ones own nose here, and realize that there isn't a clear "right" and "wrong". Some people, including you in some posts, often talkes about the majority as "right", which is, of course, "wrong". I always refer people to music here; a musician lives off of his music, but should he alwas strive to make the most commercial music he can, or stick to what he knows and loves? There's ONE fundamental thing about PoE: It WILL keep changing, no matter if you view it as evolving/devolving or progression/regression. It WILL always be designed to be played forever through changes, mix-ups, META-changes and buffs/nerfs. This will ALWAYS be the case, hence: Fundamental. Advocating against that is as useless as an empty bottle of beer. Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.

" Uhmmm... They lost 2.5 years of player growth this past league, even without all the data. (Its likely much worse) And PoE isnt the most sucessful arpg ever made. That is delusional non-sense. At best it's a sucess story of an indy startup launching a niche spiritual successor to Diablo. Please tone down the hyperbole here... its embarrassing, and cringey. " they didnt lose 2.5 years of player growth. the game has ups and downs, its always been that way, theres always times when a lot of people get cheesed off and take their breaks. in 2019, 2 years ago, the lowest league of the year had a 75k player peak. this is the lowest league of this year, it had a 116k player peak. im not the one clinging to delusional nonsense in order to justify my mood here. you say poe lost 2.5 years of player growth, you are wrong. but heres the deal, there is player growth, every year. how much player growth did diablo 3 have? essentially 0. they sold a ton of copies because of the brand name, they gave away probably more than they sold because they gave them to all the wow players etc as joint 'sales' with wow time, they launched with a ton of people having copies of their game and then instantly lost the majority of them, and continued to lose players consistently from that point on, they never gained more active players after launch than they had on launch. when they released the expansion they had a big jump in players, but the expansion moved less copies than the original game, and then they instantly began losing those people again. this game actually grows its player base, its unheard of in an arpg like this. unlike diablo an expansion here doesnt have lower numbers than the opening launch, it has more people, and more, and more, and more. and sometimes it goes down for a league or 2 compared to the previous few leagues, but that low point is still really high compared to the numbers from a few years before because the game is not only holding a consistent player base, its growing it. diablo 3 is the only arpg that has ever been in competition with poe for popularity, and because they dont change stuff, add stuff, update stuff, shift stuff, they dont gain players, they cant even hold players. no one holds players like this game in the arpg scene, no one has even attempted to do what they have done because its insane. im sorry that doesnt suit what you want to believe, it doesnt confirm the way you want to see things, but thats the reality. this is the worst league of the year and the figures weve been given is that millions of people have played it, probably as many individuals as played diablo 2 in its opening months. diablo 2 didnt grow its players. D2 sold 2 million in its opening months, 1 year later lord of destruction sold 1 million in its opening months, so how much player growth did they lose? its not even a thing, they never had any player growth to lose. they never grew their player base, never held them, most of those players played the game went oh that was fun and didnt play it again. poe repeats these kind of feats every 3 months and the worst league of this year probably matches diablo 2s grand opening peak that was the high point of that games life. from the figures its probable that theyve matched or beaten d2s biggest moment of popularity 10 times over the past 2 years. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Preach is a professional game and streamer. He literally played 8+hrs a day for weeks.
On top of which, it is not your &#%<$^$# job to tell people what to listen to or how to think. We get it, you're a GGG white-knight. path of exile has more problems and isssues than any game I've ever encountered. It has less than 60k people playing right now, and yes I'm one of them. I find the game fun and engaging, but I'm one of the very very few. |

the ppl on my friends list who havent logged in 8 years arent coming back and ggg knows this
they are not developing their game based on what older players want (maybe if you're some deep pockets alpha member with GGG_Neon in your guild...) "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."

I mean, at face value, PoE is a great F2P game. You can clear the entire campaign and do some maps without spending anything while feeling alright. However, the deeper you dive, and the longer you see the developers "at work" (what they do with updates, the kind of mistakes they make almost every single time, etc), the more jaded you become, as you realize all the insane potential of this game is trapped in some kind of hubris of current senior development team, which, in my honest opinion, needs a shake-up.
At first glance the game is rather great, and I would totally recommend almost anyone to play PoE for the campaign and early maps. You can easily get up to 60 or 100 hours of generally fun gameplay by doing campaign\early maps with a couple different character builds, and 0 real money spending, which is an amazing value for today's gaming market. Anything past that will start unveiling the much uglier aspects of this game. This was my general advice for people who asked me about PoE - play for sure, just dont do endgame, you will be most likely dissapointed. Last edited by MECHanokl#1095 on Sep 15, 2021, 2:37:10 AM
