Anywho, victim blaming is silly. Scammers are to blame, 100%. Can warn people to be careful and whatnot but responsibility lies on the ones causing harm, remember! It's your fault if you go out in the rain and get wet, it's not your fault if you go out and get mugged. Forces of nature do not have agency but people do, so when people cause harm, they're the ones to blame, not the ones that are harmed.

This will only be averted with something like an auction house.

Of course the scammers are to blame, without them they wouldn't get scammed, but the victim is not without agency either. If they acted properly they would also prevent the scam, regardless of if it's their fault they do have some amount of control here still.

If everyone would just pay attention, the scammers would stop trying to scam.

Scammers will always exist. Just go to your local market and see how they will try to scam you. The only counter to this is vigilance.

ALWAYS check, and pay attention to what is offered. If the trade is suddenly cancelled, or they start talking randomly, or beat around the bush, then it's a sure sign that it's suspicious and should be even more alert.

Even though almost no one will acknowledge it, the main issue why scams are so numerous it's because of the approach players take to the game. The vast majority are set in "profit/hour" mode. Less time spent doing something, more time "zoom zooming" through maps. Profit, profit, profit above all. In this mindset no one will spend time paying attention to their surroundings, they only react to the sounds of their item filters when something above an exalt drops. And funnily enough, they will defend this play style and blame anyone but themselves.

Check your trade window. Not a scam.

Nah. Clearly a scam. But it's one you can avoid simply by using due vigilance. So the burden is on the buyer to do just that.

I was selling Devoto Devotions with several enchantments and once accidently put the wrong helmet. After 5 mins guy wrote me to replace with one he wanted.
I was so embaraced as clearly could imagine how he thought of me as scammer. I even was ready to return him 2ex and give helmet fo free. But he politly accepted trade with proper helm and left as nothing happened.

You might as well be dividing by zero.

Pragmatism is a good thing, victim blaming isn't a good thing.

GGG could add a feature to the trade window that shows when a trade between two parties is different than a previous trade window (in a brief time) that hasn't been accepted.

this has been a thing since ever, if you fall for it, im sorry for you, but you have to check what you trade for

Except people click Accept when they are offered to get mugged and have all the tools necessary to avoid that
