Dual wield vs 1h and shield

Its more a question then any kind of statement and expirience talk.
Whats the advantage of dual wield?

Is there a reason to drop the shield with its great protection, charge, aura, and many powerfull pasive points? Dual wield have only 2-3 skill gems that gives it dmg advantage, while rest are ment for one weapon and the second weapon just don't do the diference while taking the perks of a shield away. The pasive skills for dmg/speed/acuracy of dual wield are not better then thouse of 1h weapons.

So beside making it cool is there a real reason? I ask as a person who played 1h/shield combo and is curious about dual wield on other character.

Having played all three (sword/shield, dual wield, two-hand), dual wield is still the least useful of the three. I'm pretty sure the only active skill that requires dual wield is dual strike, and you can get the same or better damage off other skills (heavy blow, elemental hit) that lets you carry a shield.

At least with two-hand weapons, the skills available and the base damage offset the price for losing the shield.
Sound like what I have expected.

But what do you mean by this?

When using a two-hand weapon...

Cons:
- You lose the shield

Pros:
- 2h weapons have a much greater base damage than 1h weapons
- Sweep skill, and to a lesser extent ground slam (1h maces work with that too)
- 6-socket weapon (can 1h weapons get 6?)

I read that wrong and thought that 2handed was dual wield.
And agree that 2h and 1h+shield are have pros and cons while dual wield have almost only cons.

About sockets:
Only 2handed and armour can have 6 sockets.
So dual wield and shield users have 2x5 sockets and two handed have 1x6 on weapons.
Until they make most skills to work with dual wield it will suck compared to other ways to fight.

At least most single target skills must work with both weapons. Skills like Viper Strike, Puncture and the like.

The funniest thing Dual wield is most powerful offensively for casters and you can get much better offensive casting mods on weapons then on shields and you still get some block.

If they removed Dual Strike (or altered it) and allowed 1h Sword/Dagger/Claw atacks to work with dual wielding like Dual Strike currently does (and to a lesser extent cleave does) dual wileding would be much more desirable.

I entirely agree with the fact that dual wielding is very lackluster in its current state. I posted a thread about this just before the open weekend beta.

Seeing how dual strike and (cleave?) are the only dual wield capable skills its somewhat boring and has nearly only cons. While using the shield and one hand gives u access to almost all the same skills and many more(many of which are much more interesting). Two handed weapons have the high base damage that makes them better for all of these different skills while dual wielding gives no bonus and is punished for using one handed skills.

Dual wielding needs to be compatible with a much wider variety of skills(even if that means giving the offhand hit a decrease in power as to not throw off balance entirely.) I'd just like to see it become more viable as you can be very squishy without that shield and the bonuses it provides.
I see many topics, and many people talking about the isue. So people have spoken thrown down words of disapointment and many ideas about what we could do about it. And it leads me to a new qustion.

Did Developers took a stand on this subject yet?
Did they told whats their plans for dual wield are?
Are there any posts describing potential future for dw?

1h weapons and shields can have up to 3 sockets.
