" This thread reminds me of POE pre-SSF where people were debating what SSF meant and what it should/shouldn't include. Chris Wilson even poked fun at the "Group SSF" request because he didn't know what that meant. There were so many factions on what playing SSF meant back then. I feel like that chatter long since died since there is a SSF mode and it's generally accepted as the definition now. I remember being against SSF no matter the definition at the time as well because I swore up and down that participants would want their own balance for drops to compensate for lack of trading, but I've been mostly wrong on that front. " I mean it's not that hard to understand. Playing with your friends vs playing the entire trade league are very different. In general GGG had SSF very wrong, fighting it for a long time, and it's now grown into a core part of the racing and events they run which get good traction. Ziz and Steelmage recently had a BroSSF custom private league which was just them. I can understand the appeal. That said, as someone pointed out, you could just pretend trade didn't exist and manually SSF with your friends. That's probably the best option, if the "bragging rights" of the legaue tag don't bother you. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."

" That's all well and good if you ignore what SSF actually stands for. Solo (by yourself, no group) Self-Found (You find your own stuff). Group play/trade doesn't fit into any part of SSF. The acronym that fits their want is NSGF (Not Solo Group Found) I suppose. Thanks for all the fish!

" Perhaps, I can't speak for everyone. I do know plenty of people would like an offline mode too. Or LAN options. My point is that SSF was a compromise for those folks too. I know the reasons GGG doesn't want to do that, but it doesn't minimize player desires either. Just to get it back on track, the concept of playing with friends, and not everyone else isn't novel. And you can actually do that in PoE, if you pay for a private league. Anyways, like I said in the previous post, OP and friends can just manually group and ignore trade as a compromise. " Although online vs. offline seems like it is relevant superficially, it's not required for solo or self-found and it presents a host of issues in terms of cheating. Solo can be achieved online and self-found be achieved online. Online vs. offline is a separate topic entirely. The people that wanted offline mode were using the SSF discussion to further their personal agenda that had nothing to do with SSF. Agreed on OP having options. They can go with the honor system in the current state or roll up a private league if they don't trust each other. Thanks for all the fish!

I think OP has a good idea, however, SOLO self found isn't the place for it. Maybe just but "Self Found" as a option under standard or something? Normal game minus the ability to trade?
However, what he is talking about is a totally new game mode, not SSF. |

" It begs the question how many modes does the game need especially when we have the ability to have custom private leagues? I'm not saying there is a right answer. Just that there are a lot of people with ideas for their own preferred mode and only so much catering can be done. Honestly, I felt like the Core/HC/SSF was enough and Ruthless now feels like the 5th wheel, especially when we had private leagues to meet the need for extreme mods. But it's here and taking development cycles. It just doesn't make sense to keep catering to smaller niche things in a game that already caters to a very niche group of gamers.
