Pet peeve of mine: "Ultimatum is just Ritual 2.0"

"yet another breach"

See, this is what makes more sense to me. Breach was one of the first that was hailed and reviled by people on two sides - people who like simple kill-monsters-get-loot with some salt and pepper thrown in, vs. people who'd like more involved leagues.

I think most likely people saying "ulti is ritual 2.0" are just displeased that we're getting two Breach-type leagues in a row. I think people are expecting GGG to basically alternate simple league, complex league, simple league, complex league, and they were hoping for another complex league (along the lines of Betrayal, Synthesis, Heist, Incursion to some extent, etc.).

I, too, enjoy long-form league content, but I can appreciate simple short-form leagues as well. Since I skipped both Betrayal and Heist, the reworked Betrayal and relatively-new Heist are good enough to scratch that long-form league itch for me, so I don't mind Ultimatum being Breach 6.0 that much.

EDIT: Also, I never chased Sirus much in endgame before, and this is the first league I'm really getting into that, as well. Sirus, Maven, Shaper, Elder, are all relatively fresh enough long-form content that I don't mind Ulti being short form content for a second league in a row.

Yeah I think that's an issue. Pople are like wait a minute, this seems low effort on GGGs part. They could understand Ritual - which was low effort as well - because it came with so much more - new atlas, maven, and figuring out how to intergrade harvest. But Ultimatum seems low effort plus all around - and those nerfs in the mix didnt help matters.

As far as your progression - well I've always said taking many leagues off is best thing. This way you got a lot to catch up on and even if league is a bust you got other systems to keep you interested. Gratz bro!
Git R Dun!
Think we're in for a series of simple leagues until PoE2 comes out.
Were I a more paranoid man, I would think Ultimatum existed purely to make Ritual look better by comparison. And, well, it's working.
This is a buff™
At the moment, mine is actually in-game.

For me the key difference is how monster quantity is handled.

Ultimatum seems to attempt to counter screen clear builds. No matter how high your DPS, there should still be mobs on screen attacking you.

Whereas in ritual the mob quantity was fixed. The staggered entrance hindered screenclear a bit, but didn't fundamentally stop it.

So I'm not surprised a lot of people hate Ultimatum comparatively, it's subtly but significantly changing how we interact with attackers.

Ultimatum is still a worse Ritual. I don't see how circles (which most people avoid anyway) and running away from things make it different.
It's easy to find similarities/differences when you're looking for them. To call this Ritual 6.0 is just as misleading as calling it Ritual 2.0. If you distill Breach down to: Click Thing, Get Monsters...then yes. Most every league since Breach has been Breach. Breach also offered an end game area. Ultimatum really doesn't do that. The wave 10 boss isn't really end game material in Ultimatum either.

The only league in recent history that didn't followed the "Click thing, Get monsters" model was Heist and a section of the community complained about the added encounters not being inside maps. Even Synthesis had a click thing, get monsters mechanic.

If you think of Ultimatum being the same as Ritual because you run in circles, then most of the game is Ritual 2.0. What do you do in the Maven fight? Run in circles. What's the best way to dodge most boss hits? Run in circles. That's a systemic problem with the game, if you view it as a problem.

Ultimatum has enough differences to be it's own thing in my opinion. I'm personally enjoying it more than Ritual. And I liked Ritual.
Thanks for all the fish!
You are ignoring how both ritual and ultimatum are in fixed circles which automatically makes them different from breach (expanding circle), legion (no circle but clumps you need to clear two times), metamorph (a single boss), blight (tower defense), abyss (following a trail) and so on. Killing monsters and running in circles is the whole point of ARPGs, its not a base to compare two leagues to each other.
