Why is the magic in the game so weak?

spells do not use weapons to deal damage

I did not write that the weapon uses a spell, I meant the damage on the weapon

Evgeniy480 means that the damage on the weapon has no effect on the damage of the spell.
yes, that's why I'm writing that the damage from the spell is already very small, if you compare it with the top weapons for melee and the top weapons for mages, melee are stronger every 1000

yeah, for example lvl 20 Fireball spell has 1095 - 1643 base fire damage with .75s cast time. this equals 1825 base dps. show me some weapon with higher dps please

Your build isnt working out because you are all over the place.

You are trying to be a life / mind over matter / energy shield hybrid build mixed in with lightning dmg, minion stuff and some crit.
Thats too much.

In this game you should focus on a few things and scale those as much as you possibly can, trying to exploit synergies when you can.


When I imported your build you were sitting at:
Life: 1579 (32% life from tree is nowhere near enough)
Energyshield: 2269
Unreserved Mana: 253 (why would you go Mind over Matter, if you dont have unreserved mana to begin with?)
Effective health: 4101
DPS: 81.692

As a result you get stunned a lot. Once you stunned, you cant cast. If you can cast, you cant leech ES or life and you die.
Also ES/Life leech is capped and the cap depends on how much ES/life you have. The more you got, the more you can leech.
You tried to throw in some cast when stunned setups to fix that, but its not working out.

I ditched Mind over Matter, because it does next to nothing for you and focussed on stacking as much life and dmg as I could to give you a fighting chance.

Now it looks like this:
Life: 3875 (181% life from tree, not where I wanted it to be but much much better)
Energyshield: 1777 (I dropped a bit because life is just more important)
Effective health: 5652 (close to 50% more than you had before)
DPS: 245.397 (almost tripled the dmg output)
Could be 353.950 dps if you were to replace the life leech gem.
Also I made sure to cap out your elemental resistences, allowing you to drop some of your items with no life rolls. Try to get life everywhere and get to 5-6k life total. Plus some 2k ES should be an ok defense for the time being.


This is still not great and you will still die a lot until you manage to get more life on your gear.
But you should die way less than before and at least dish out some dmg.
Most of this was caused by your inefficient pathing on the tree, ignoring Elemental Overload and your Golems. Latter ones are living buffs in this build and you need as many of them as you can possibly get.

I nearly had a stroke reading that sentence. What do you mean?
Also, are you even considering reading the comments of some of the people who try to help you?

Physical skills use a high phys weapon (which makes sense, a axe can only hit hard if you swing it correctly) Spell-skills use other affixes on your gear and skilltree. (spells are working from your within if you want to roleplay) and are not needed for for high damage.

At this point i would say you are trolling, but you never know.
Casters are oneshotting bosses the same as physical melee wielders. The reason you wont even try remotly to understand the mechanics behind Path of Exile does not mean its unbalanced.

You may not realize this, but making spells scale off weapons would actually make them weaker. As your top end damage would be linked to how good the weapon it is scaling from is. Sure it may bring the very low end up by raising the floor, but it would absolutely kill the high end of damage by lowering the ceiling. The example is that you don't see any melee physical damage scaling to 1.2Billion damage like you do with current spells. maybe 50 to 100 million, with some crazy gear.

As it is now you scale spells from gem levels (above lvl20 for endgame) and the passive skill tree. Some modifiers on gear and weapons, but not the weapon damage itself.
Spells are already the strongest possible damage source in the game, so maybe linking the damage to a weapon would be a good way to bring it back in line with melee playstyles.
Get wrecked casters, you are now bound to your weapons -from the mehlee crew

p.s. listen to Orbaal, that is one exile that knows wtf they are talking about.

Yeah, it is a bit odd that that one is linked to attacks only and not any hit as the name makes it sounds like it should.

mind is above all --- I have translated in the game like this 30% of damage is taken from mana instead of health, nothing about the mana reserve is written there
