Why were there used to be two leagues at the same time?

I was browsing the list of leagues on the wiki and there used to be two leagues at the same time

Leagues such as:
Torment and Bloodlines.
Rampage and Beyond. Ambush and Invasion.
Domination and Nemesis.
Onslaught and Anarchy
It used to be that there was also less currency, could you buy them?
What's changed with poe currency?

Back then, there was seperate leagues for hardcore and softcore - with different MTX rewards.

Also think of how simple those leagues are. Like onslaught was literally monsters just ran and attacked faster. Thats the league. Thats it. Nothing else new.

There's no real coding or balancing or dev work that needs to be done for that.

And in some leagues like invasion some mobs were coded with an extra 0 to their damage numbers for no reason other than to troll hc deaths.

Was awesome. Twice the free MTX and enticed ppl to play HC. Now It's basically dead save SSF HC.

Best part is best mechanics cam outta the HC version. Nemesis, Invasion, warbands, Beyond...ones they make you pay for at zana to this day they were so good.

One league for SC, one for HC players.
That was a very different game, the biggest threats were desyncs and dealing with 150 ping daily. Still, it was super fun and entertaining to see those flame wars between SC and HC players on forum, good memories. I miss that.

Races were a lot of fun.

They got a decent chunk of the community energized and made you feel more connected to the game. All GGG really needs to do for a race season is code some alt MTX items, and then reload the race system. GGG could run races on the last 42 days of their "lesser" leagues (such as the current one). I think they would get a larger player retention, as people would have a reason to keep playing.

Bring back the races!
