WTF Dual Wield Wand??

Soo I was planning on making a dual wield wand physical power siphon build, but heres the problem.

When dual wielding, my default attack states less DPS than when I am wielding only a single wand. Additionally, my Power Siphon DPS does less damage while dual wielding than when single equipped. What gives???

Link the items? And link what you removed to off-hand the wand? I'd wager comparisons are in order.

This might sound a bit obvious, but are you swapping out a better shield for the second wand? If that's not the case, then it's possibly a display bug.

For power siphon your wands are not combined for the attack. If you look at the tooltip carefully it follows the description here regarding duel wielding:

It is not a bug at all if you analyze the information displayed carefully.

Most likely one of your wands is a much slower attack speed, as that largely affects the displayed DPS.

It should add the stats of the second wand in to the attack though.

But the DPS in the little box will average between the two wands, so if the second want is less than 90% of the first one, DPS goes down.

When you dual wield, most attacks will alternate between the two weapons. If this were not the case, then equipping a second weapon would instantly double your DPS, which.. is obviously a terrible idea when it comes to game balance. (You do gain a multiplicative 10% attack speed bonus just from equipping a second weapon)

So if you have a wand that deals 50 DPS, and you equip a second wand that deals 50 DPS, your DPS will be almost exactly the same, but if the second wand only deals 20 DPS, your overall DPS will be LOWER than before.

These are the two wands equipped.



With only the Ghoul barb equipped (no shield), it states my default attack DPS as 137.5, while with both equipped it states 112.8

As far as Power Siphon goes, with both DPS = 155.1 and only Ghoul Wand = 184.5

Thoroughly confused, seems illogical that wearing 2 weapons would lower my DPS.

Edit: Ok I see that Power Siphon alternates the weapon being fired which would account for the DPS drop on that skill, but still confused about default attack DPS being lower while dual wielding.

Because default attack also alternates weapons. See my post above for an explanation of why.

Ok so without taking any dual wielding passive bonuses, dual wielding will always result in lower DPS unless both items are exactly the same? That doesnt make sense from a flavor standpoint to me, the whole point in having 2 weapons instead of a weapon/shield is to do MORE damage lol.
