Level 100 Ultimatum Reflection - League Launch, New Mechanics, Exploit Ban

After reading your post through, I feel like I've done my run to 100. Thanks, now I can rest easy getting to the low 90s. :)

As for the exploit ban thing, I see apparently I am in the minority here. I believe that is because I don't really know the details of the situation, but also because I am a man of principles and integrity above all else.

Why do you have to be like that?
That person came over from the diablo guild ZE(Zero Empathy), to poe and made a guild with the name of a diablo cheating tool. They try to get any edge to be on top and will use everything possible. They knew they were doing questionable things and did it anyway, it will be great, we get our advantage, yeah not this time.

Because of that person ggg had to change their rules about giveaways 3,4 years ago, they still do it while trying to bend the rules.

Stop defending cheaters, thank you.
This is actually a poignant observation and question I was also asking myself after reaching 100:

It strikes me as strange that someone likes the game enough to do a lot of pre-league prep, play for as long as you did, be one of the first to reach 100 like you did, has so many overwhelmingly harsh criticisms.

So my question is: how much more are you playing this league and are you playing next league?

The answer I've found to the seeming paradox of the first statement is that at its core and in a general sense, Path of Exile is, by an absolutely overwhelming margin, the greatest ARPG that has ever existed. The only problem is all the little things that drive you insane while playing the game. It may surprise you that I haven't actually played PoE that much: Harbinger, slightly dabbled in Metamorph but didn't like it, Delirium, and a couple weeks of Ritual. After I go back to my normal life for a while, my frustration abates and my optimism returns: This time they'll give us the smooth launch they promised, they'll have fixed the bugs, they'll have improved the performance... And the other half is just that I forget all these little things after being away from the game for long enough: it's the classic nostalgia bias, where you remember the general idea of something as being positive while forgetting all the little nagging netagives.

As for your direct question: at this moment I don't see anything particularly enticing about the endgame of this league. It seems very similar to last league, but with nerfs sprinkled around. The ultimatums are cool but I feel I've had my fill of them already, and Inscribed Ultimatums are super not fun. On top of this, I am very busy in my normal life - I'm a software engineer, rock climber, and study Chinese every day. So it's probably time to get back to these things and catch up with life so I can be back for next league :)

Thank you for your insights and candor. This was a thoroughly enjoyable read.

Your take on Empy is ridiculous. Go watch his VOD. There is no way anyone would think that interaction is intended. He created a loot explosion bigger than a five way legion could ever be. He might have gain more experience than an enriched Chayula Breachstone could ever give.

So you think farming the Trial (which is guranteed to spawn in every map) for several minutes should yield more loot than collecting 500 splinters of 5 different encounters? Or that it should give more experience than collecting 100 Chayula splinters and upgrading them twice?

Don't be a fool.

And when it comes to Empy: He is also not a fool. He was fully aware of the fact that this is a bug. And he decided to not only use this bug to his advantage, he also advertised it on his stream.

Did GGG communicate the RMR changes? I believe they did but I don't remember where. Can't you hover your amulet to see the tags? Maybe I'm not fully understanding the issue. If the catalyst says 'I buff mana tags' and the mod has a mana tag then yeah you're right. If they took the mana tag off and you didn't read the patch notes closely enough, or didn't double check your amulet first that's on you.
Hotfixes don't necessarily include a client update to address things like in-game text. Blizzard Entertainment does the same kinda thing in WoW, they have hotfixes which can change gameplay mechanics and the game won't tell you the changes to those mechanics until a patch is released for the client to download.

Borderlands also handles hotfixes the same way, though it took them a fair while to indicate clearly if and when hotfixes have been applied after starting a game.

In GGG's case they need to make the client display the Update Notes screen the next time the game is run and display information about all current hotfixes in addition to regular patch notes. Heck they could display game patch notes and hotfixes in a menu in the game.

I never thought I would ever write these words, but:

For someone REALLY wanting to hit my first level 100 this league, I was wondering what I should focus on first.

My first goal was to down Sirus A8, and that has been done this morning. Now for the task ahead: Getting to lvl 100.

I've heard a bunch of tips and tricks like the ol' beachhead rotas and pure breachstone rotas. Are they somehow sustainable? Will I be able to afford all those runs by making currency WHILE RUNNING those? I have seen guides but they are all from past leagues.

I have a modest amount of currency rn (about 10ex in my currency tab) and my build is pretty squishy (5k hp / 2.2k es). What would be the best way to proceed?
Wtf is this self-glorified brag fest of a post? Please...
