What is Cruelty?

They showed both a description and the gem info now but what is the cruelty buff? I mean I can be patient and figure it out in a couple days but it just seems weird to not explain what the gem does at all.

It adds a buff that increases physical and damage over time to (I believe) any skill connected to the cruelty gem, based on the verbal explanation..

The exact amounts should be known when they release the gem info today or tomorrow.

The gem info is already out, it still says nothing. You can gain Cruelty on hit. So what is it? I get that it gives you some DoT boost based on your damage.

Jaquin Phoenix in the gladiator is cruel. But more seriously it's a DOTzDPS if you're into that sorta thing. i'll never use anything that doesnt on off packs instant.

Added a new Strength/Intelligence Support Gem - Cruelty: Supports skills that hit enemies, causing them to deal more damage with hits. You also gain a Cruelty buff, which makes all supported skills deal up to 50% more damage over time, based on the amount of damage of the initial hit.

From the patchnotes

it seems as though it is a really OP support gem that applies a tag or a debuff to the affected enemy.

It very well may be quite powerful.

This seems like trash since almost zero builds focus on both hit AND dot, and the values arent even high.

Brutality will make the new Physical dots do 59% more damage with no real downside.

Efficacy will give 44% more damage and 16% more duration.

But with cruelty you have to scale hit to who knows how much to get only 50%?

Looks dead on arrival.

What other info are you looking for exactly? Between the patch notes and the gem info, it seems pretty straightforward.
