Path Of Crafting
I would really appreciate knowing what is the long term vision for the game from GGG. I mean, I am the only one to deplore the lack of worthy loots? We do not chase unique items or somme good rare one anymore, it's only craft, craft, craft and... craft...
Path of exile is by far the most complete hack and slash on the market but this game is forgetting the fundamentals ! The pleasure of finding items... Last bumped on Feb 23, 2021, 8:47:24 AM

Yep, looting is awful in PoE. You know there's something wrong with a game that's about getting awesome gear when the best way to do that is...to filter out just about all the actual gear that drops.

Chris said they wanted more emphasis on loot drops more than anything else and I tend to agree that loot is what really helps an ARPG move. It's certainly the most fun for myself.
Crafting is fine, esp since the game is built on crafting currency but it's gone too far. Ever since Influenced items the number of itemization layers is just ridiculous. Item Type and Stat Tier rolls should be segregated by map level and that's only 1/4 of the layers. It's the only way to make it reasonable now. No more Rawhide Gloves with 10HP on a T15 map. That was tolerable back in the day when you could Alch an Astral Plate and see what you get. We have other crap to worry about now like the right base, the right influence, the right influence rolls, the right stats, the right tier stats. Picking up non-influenced items is a waste of time now and even then you'll likely get a crap base because it can roll anything. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

The 'smart loot' we saw in Heist and occasionally in Rituals was a step in the right direction. Not saying there is not more that can be, or should be done, but it was good to see.
The re-introduction of Harvest completely killed that and significantly devalued uniques as well. I think unique items were already in bit of a sorry state since we got influenced items and mods about a year ago, but harvest is just..perhaps we won't go there in this thread. |

Did you ever chase good drops? This is better than path of trading like it was for the last 8 years. PoE 2 is getting rid of the need to get 6 links which is huge. If they get rid of sockets entirely, gut the always bad mods, and completely alter resistance then maybe we can be in a good place for looting.
As of now though, eh crafting is better than trading. |

Hasn't it always been about crafting though? I mean that was the basis of the entire currency system. Built on the concept that you would use that currency on everything.
Even the iconic D2, while crafting wasn't a big deal. The game was kind of all about Uniques, Sets, Runewords. It was never really about rares. They should probably adjust harvest because I do think a good chunk of harvest is great for the game. Then add more items like the Incursion stuff. Then I think we will have a healthy system of finding gear, but also supplementing it with crafting. Smart loot system used has also been a great addition. |

I guess it is a matter of preference, but the concept of Harvest (not the schizophrenic state it currently is in) is, to me, one of the best things to be introduced to PoE in a long while. Remove Horticrafting station storage limit.

Yup, I want to know it too. I loathe crafting and if Harvest stays I might just switch games. No reason to stay when doing low-level easy content nets you the best rewards.

Crafting could be fun if it doesn't depend so much about trading billions of currency and RNG. Look at Harvest, it's completely balance around trading only. Players playing SSF will never craft anything half mirror tier in a 3 month league. And at the end of the day, no matter what, crafting shouldn't be the only way to have valuable items.
Remember the days where finding a Kaom or Shav body were an amazing feeling? Well, today it's gone. Beside some very rare replica items and headhunter, evrything is devalued because only ilvl 86 influenced matters. And we cant'even have fun finding them because we need layers and layers of craft to make something usefull with that. Even the hardest boss rewards are mostly high end currency for...craft again. Maybe we need more item like watcher eyes to counterbalance this. |
