So Chris... Matt Uelmen for music?

I really quite like the soundtrack for the game. The main menu track and Shore Encampment alone are pretty iconic in my mind (and you can hear them both here)
Other than that I remember the Brutus boss fight having great music in the past. I should make a point to stop and listen next time I'm there. IGN: SpudOfDoom | The Exiled - Path Of Exile's oldest clan

" The new Brutus music is awesome. I'm not sure what patch it came with 0.9.6 maybe. Shore encampment is one of my favorites. I also really like the coves music. RIP Bolto

Firstly let's speak truths, Uelmen's music is unmatchable in the first place.
Having said this, the music of PoE is rarely fitting in places, such as "only Brutus' level" (definitly not in lower levels) and Church Dungeon a bit. The rest are pretty generic and does not fit with the atmosphere well. It just does not give an edge, cause its not dark and threatening. On the contrary it has a relaxed and happy feeling instead of being strechted and horror-inspired, as it should be since PoE is called "dark action role playing game" in GGG's site. Considering the funds GGG having atm, they could hire a more talented musician if not Uelmen, just to make the music much more fitting with the atmosphere GGG been trying to provide, obviously. This should not be overlook, because everytime you hear that music in those places means you will hear hundreds of times even more, this also gonna reflect how much you will enjoy directly playing PoE. Or how long you wanna stay in game even more. Do not ever underestimate the power of music, it is itself what will make you play again and again if not, just going those places to hear that music once again and again. Especially i never but never liked the music in outdoors in Act 2, whenever i play in those grounds i try to move fast and finish those places as quickly as i can before i asleep. Actually, Brec, I tend to idle in the Shore Encampment (sometimes for days) and it's always nice to come back to that music. It's not light-hearted as first presented, either. There are some grim chords behind the main melody.
The church music I've just discovered (I really took my time with this game) and it's great. I'm actually sort of 'over' choral bombast in soundtracks, but there's no bombast in the church music. It's eerie, haunting. It's more Omen and less One Winged Angel. This is a win in my books. Does the soundtrack stack up to most premium soundtracks? Yes and no. I used to review vgm for a website, and since I tended only to pick things I'd thumbs up, that actually meant I didn't write very much for them. :P There are certainly more produced soundtracks out there, but the implication of 'produced' is of course the unspoken 'over' prefix. Minimalist is where PoE needs to stay, but with moments of real tension and horror. The Shore Encampment music to me is simple but strained because that's what its people are. Their life is a simple, repetitive melody, light in touch because it could be dragged away on the tide at any time. Similarly, the second camp, is a little less tip-toed, a little more tribal. Communal, even. If I had the soundtrack I'd go through it with the same level of detail and see how it matched. Soon enough. So while I do agree certain areas could do with a slight makeover tune-wise, the foundations are pretty solid to me. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Well, the reason I asked the question in the first place is that the game already has Uelmen-esque music, so why not go all the way and see if you can recruit the man himself to take the atmosphere up to eleven.
Besides, there are plenty of acts to come and they all need music; no need to replace something that's already in. IGN: Hauberdogken.

PoE's music is already amazing. Just because Uelmen did an amazing job on Diablo 1 does not mean he will do good on everything. Torchlight's music was very subpar, in my opinion.

" Seconded. I mean, I heard the music in the town of Torchlight and was like, oho, I KNOW who did this music (the entire game for me was a random download based on its strange resemblance to Dungeon Runners -- unfortunately it wasn't as funny)...but none of its actual OST was as memorable as D1's or D2's. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

" Absolutely true. I can't even remember music from Torchlight, and i choose half of a game based on its music, POE Could have had a lot worse music, considering their budget so i am extremely satisfied with what we got. They should however try to get a few more openworld themes in, because its kind of funny to hear the same piece in Terraces and Ship Graveyard its 2 very atmospheric moods :) |

I also think the music we already have is absolutely brilliant. :)
