Deleting files from the following folders helped me
C:\Users\*username\AppData\Local\PathofExile
C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\PathofExile
I also deleted all this after uninstalling the game client, I don't know how important this is.
The files from the Roaming folder were not deleted due to an error and I had to use software to delete them.
