Think i know why RNG is inconsistent in PoE

haha why would they have to do that? The probability for a 21 is already low enough, no reason to "rig it" to not be able to do it multiple times.

Maybe they would want to "rig it" so that you can't have long, unlucky streaks. For example, they could guarantee it on every 10th or 15th corruption.

I doubt they do that, though. Too much coding effort for too little gain.

If they "follow a distribution" and produce identically distributed results then you don't have a random process. Again... there is no such thing as a random process so trying to compare your "definition" to something that doesn't exist is going to be incredibly frustrating. There should really avoid the term completely. Use "unpredictable"... it's much less likely to provoke nonsense like this thread.

Not sure what your mathematical background is. Do you know the term "independent and identically distributed", also called IID, and its meaning? If not, I am afraid we are talking past each other here.

I've been teaching math longer than you've been on this planet at the College level. You have a glimmer of understanding. They're trying to describe "random" too. Their use of IID is a synonym... not a definition. Unicorns don't exist either, but we have a word for them. Having a term for something isn't proof of its existence. There is no such thing as a "independent and identically distributed" process.

That does not answer my question, though. Just trying to make sure we are talking about the same things.

If you are interested, there are formulae that you can find that describe how often such really unlucky streaks are expected to occur. They aren't as rare as you might think.

Maybe you have a link?

After having long streaks of bad luck, players could get frustrated/burnt out and leave the game. Maybe it could help for player retention.

I can't teach you about this here. People go to school for years to understand this stuff. You're one of those people with a little knowledge that think they have it down. During-Kruger. Google it. [Removed by Support]

My reference to the point you are on the graph was removed by support... you'll have to figure out where you stand on your own. Hint: It's to the left. The feature on the graph has been called that for the last 20+ years and reference to it is is literature. It's utterly ridiculous that I can't refer to it by its given name.

Arrogance isnt a sign of wisdom.

Did I claim wisdom? This thread is about fact. People tossing around nonsense and I call them out on it.

Dont want to turn this into some sort of drama, so probably this is the only post about this matter. Not holding any grudges, just an observation - havent seen a single person trying to demean you in any serious way, not once, but your behaviour wasnt very nice. Dissagree with something - fine. Just express it in a more civilised manner.

It's called Dunning-Kruger.

But yeah, that still doesn't answer my question, which would be relatively important to know the answer to in order to have a discussion about these topics.
