PSA: Solution to stop Crashing with Ryzen CPU's
Du you have a first gen Ryzen CPU and are crashing a lot since last patch ?
If you Disable SMT (simultaneous multithreading) in Bios it will stop crashing. Disabling SMT has no notable performance hit as well, and you can still have multithreading on. Techstop even got better performance in games when they turned SMT off. https://www.techspot.com/review/1882-ryzen-9-smt-on-vs-off/ When GGG patches this bug, you can just turn in on again. I crashed every 5 mins before, but after turning off SMT I haven't crashed a single time in 8 hours.
I also didn't lose a single frame per second in game. Last edited by evovolvo#5267 on Jan 30, 2021, 9:46:38 AM

Did that and changed A-XMP to Profile 1 and now it seems to be stable. Will see if this works just for the moment or really helps^^

" It really does work. 10 hours and counting now without a single crash. Last edited by evovolvo#5267 on Jan 30, 2021, 11:31:54 AM

You can also use Project Lasso as I pointed out here
https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3032977 Be aware that you need to create a profile for PoE, otherwise every time the game exe is launched you need to disable SMT for the PoE process again. Both this and disabling SMT in the bios works for me. |

Ryzen 5 2600 here, disabling SMT in bios didn't work. Still crashing and freezing

Yeah, R7 1700, disabling SMT just made it last 2 hours before crashing instead of 10 minutes

Rather than globally disabling SMT, I think it's far better to just set processor affinity. That way you achieve 3 things:
* no decreased performance from disabling MT ingame * no global decrease in performance in non-poe apps from not having 1/2 your cores (virtual) * still effectively achieves the same for PoE - no virtual cores, no (frequent) crashes That is, if disabling SMT in bios is currently fixing the issue for you, you've nothing to lose by just disabling your virtual cores locally for PoE. If disabling SMT doesn't fix your crashes, this won't work either: "in a .bat file. you need a different hex mask if you've got a diff # of physical cores, 555 works for 6 phys cores can also set launch options per this post: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/3029755/page/20#p23829862 Last edited by hqDM#6633 on Jan 30, 2021, 2:28:16 PM

Thank you so much! Disabling SMT with Project Lasso like Rolfil said stopped the game from crashing 30 secs on my Ryzen 5 1600!

" Changed A-XMP from 2 to 1 as well? I just tested and the 2nd profile keeps crashing my game as well. |
