Are templars bad, or am I bad?

I have a ranged Templar on Alpha, without AoF, doing quite well. I use elemental hit and lightning arrow/pets/explosive shot. haven't had a problem.

I played a pretty straigthforward staff grondslam templar in the recent 90 minute cutthroat ladder race and came in 4th. It wasn't super amazing, but it certainly wasn't ineffective.


with the short open pvp leagues it really does all depend on what early drops you get (if you get lucky with your drops or not)

what's your average dps?

do you end up killing whites in 1 hit? how about blues and groups of whites?

Well, whites I can kill in one hit, usually with just a standard attack. I won't post my dps as there are changes on alpha regarding damage calculation that may or may not make it into beta, and I wouldn't want to give faulty information.

The difficulty increase is also substantial, many times I have to kite groups of mobs and run like hell from some named mobs, but from what I have read in the feedback section this isn't a "problem" with my class build. It's just that Wraeclast has become a much more dangerous place.

Some builds take a while to get good.. like the one I use. My witch sucked till nearly the end of the 2nd difficulty.. and when I say sucked I mean really really bad. But then when all the things started synergizing the build started working like I originally planned.

Little update on my Templar. About halfway into Act 1 on Cruel difficulty and things became noticeably tougher. I seem to be lacking in damage output, but my God am I a Tank. Gonna' start taking more damage passives and work on a nifty weapon that I'll use for a while since leveling has slowed down a bit. Gonna' be beast.
Level 23 Staff Templar

This is my party character with my wife (playing a dagger ranger). We ripped through Act One in about 3 hours flat... kinda shocked we went that quick.

Primary skills:
Heavy Strike for 1 on 1 (with increased accuracy)
Ground Slam for small groups
Sweep when surrounded (also increased accuracy)

Secondary skill for him is auras... taking all the passives available for that (not many on the board, like only 6). Using Anger right now, planning on Wrath when I get enough mana - and the wife used Hatred, so we stack auras.

Not planning on taking Blood Magic with this. I'm a bit paranoid being a tank and spending my life for Mana. Also was not aiming for AoF, partially because I know it's being rehabilitated...
