How ingenious and innovative! I bet nobody has ever asked for an auction house before!

The best answer man ! :)
I understand the desire for trade not to be automated through an Action House. I get GGG's stance on the issue and there's a lot of merit to it.

However, the current system is not without its faults and there ought to be room for the trade design to be improved.

-If we rely on the API for listings, it needs to be in real time. If I'm looking at currency exchanges, people who have unloaded their stock should not show up.

-Whispering 20+ players for an item that IS in stock is also dumb. This is not an intended feature of the trade mechanic.

-Scamming is still a problem. I just had someone try to scam me out of 6ex yesterday and that shouldn't even be a possibility. 'Buyer/sell beware' is not good enough because there's no limit to how many times scammers can make the attempt and eventually it pays off for them. It shouldn't. Ever. And GGG shouldn't want those people as a part of their community and yet, there isn't even a report option for it.

I don't have a magic solution but there are numerous examples of games/MMO's that have done player shops in the past for GGG to draw from. The console version of this game already has an alternative that many PC players would probably find preferable.

This seems to be a database capacity problem, not an actual intended mechanic. They may have fixed that...

Actually that IS an intended feature. The main purpose of the current system is to limit trade to a level the game can handle. They can't do much to limit high-value items, but for lower-value items, if the seller is busy, he'll not stop mapping for a few C...

Feel free to suggest an alternative solution that will not increase trade (which is why the current system is as it is).
If GGG had a report button for it, they'd have to increase their customer support staff by 10x or more...

The game they seem to have looked most at as a comparative game is Diable III... It removed trading completely because they did have an AH, and that meant nobody would ever find an item they'd be able to use as they'd already bought a far better one for a pittance... the part of the game that is about finding stuff had been limited to finding currency.

This is specifically covered in the trade manifesto:

On the trade market, we're experimenting with the opposite end of the trade spectrum, where it's very easy to complete trades but more difficult to find the exact item you're looking for. You can search broadly by a specific item class or type, but have to look through a lot of search results to find the one you want to make an offer on. This system intentionally makes the search process harder and the trade process easier, for quite a different trade experience. We're not planning to bring it to the international PC version of Path of Exile.
"White" knight Cyzax at it again.

Trade in it's current state simply is not fun.

Bring in an AH and some auto-loot pets, it's well overdue
