Chayula breach is a prime example of 'designing game against the player'
For a long time there's been something off with PoE that I just couldn't nail to myself. I've wondered the way game is about starving content to player and making a sort of ladder in which rich get richer and those who have firepower are also allowed to access content. With all the timers being set how they are, breachlords finally made it clear to me. It's about setting the game against player, whereby I mean it's stacked: any other breachlord is easier to access since you get splinter many times more than chayula ones. Incidentally, chayula breach is also the one which has tougher time to kill enough mobs for accessing the final boss, and the difference is noticeable.
It's just food for thought: GGG, do you really think it's a tenable idea to design your game against the player instead of giving player variety for the sake of having varied content in game and not stacking it against the player, restricting him to grind the same areas over and over? Timers are a dps check, you've already made it so that all the rewards are stacked for select few. It's even worse you are starving player of content if his build for some reason does not follow narrow dps and fast zooming criteria. To me it seems like devs have given up on trying to bring fresh ideas into table and instead going for easy route of starving content (via frag drops) and making harsh timers (via restricting slower builds) to pretend there's more for players to tackle than there is. I'm sure veterans with gg builds won't agree, because they see access to content as a privilege. However, I'm quite sure there are numbers of people playing who'd love to get a shot with smaller budget and less dps oriented gameplay to actually get to see league specific endgame areas more. It feels especially stacked against player because in many cases -as with afore mentioned Chayula- content is not hard as such, but you are not allowed to really try it out. I get it, you don't want to spoon-feed everything to the player, and I'm not asking for getting every endgame item with ease. What I'm asking is whether it's reasonable to give 1 or 2 frickin splinters every tenth or so encounter to an area, just so players are shut off experiencing your content. There are other offenders also, as the game is fractured into so many pieces of sub-areas and each one requires you to farm for ridiculous amounts of time or go for soul-shattering trade to by special map items. This means you will be grinding the same content over and over for a slim chance in a blue moon to do something else in game. Just my 2 cents. ^^ His problem is the game punishing slow clearing builds.

" I'd really like to see one of those mysterious "slow clearing builds" that are so slow that they can't deal with pure breachstones. Blowing up a screen of monsters isn't exactly hard these days, no matter what skill you use. |

I feel like GGG has already been shying away from timers after Delirium. Seems like they got the message that people don't really like them.
with that said, I fully expect them to make another timer based league. Last edited by VolcanoElixir#1787 on Nov 16, 2020, 2:04:34 AM

This guy is complaining about chayula splinters being rare...
I've nearly completed the 75k IIQ map grind "challenge" and I still haven't found two brothers contract to access the end game league area. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris. Last edited by Ydoum#5726 on Nov 16, 2020, 2:54:59 AM

" THIS. I've done multiple Shapers and Uber Elders, literally dozens of breachlords and Siruses, several Beachheads, Awakened almost every unique map, done enough Syndicate safehouses to unlock every single bench recipe, Delved to primieval ruins and beyond, cleared the Domain of Timeless Conflict repeatedly, and done thousands of heists/grand heists. Still haven't seen Admiral Darnaw's contract, and just found my first Unbreakable. |

" are you sure ALL of your chars can both clear pure chaypla breachstone AND kill the chaypla without dying? because i have my doubts.. not to mention that brachstones can be unlucky: rares are your main source of time and if they happen to spawn late in the run no build will carry you try cleave for a skill. my dual Fate of the Vaal build managed to clear the mobs but had no chance vs chaypla (death by no chaos res). except spending a fortune on chaos res gear there is very little one can do to make that build better: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2991525 |
