Items with "built-in" support gems - mana cost? nyctas lantern

Hey guys! I was wondering about this weapon and others like it (items with built-in support skills). Do you need to pay the corresponding mana cost for those skills. Like if you link ethereal knives to this item: is the mana cost multiplied by 130% for added fire damage and 140% for fire penetration? Not sure, but you can test it. Look at the EK gem while it's in your inventory and not in a socket. It should tell you the mana cost. Then, put it in your weapon and equip it. If the tooltip mana cost is higher than what you looked at earlier, then the mana costs are applied.

yes almost, you cant choose them 100% but if they are free.. for a fire caster or an ethereal knives dude it should be really good, right?

i think this item was designed for "low life" builds because of the +25% light radius.
Just a thought. Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes

I have one of those, and it does work. It's probably the only use the item has, except maybe for desperate FP casters in a Cold Resist area.

Just throw any attack gem in there and see if it costs more than the base amount to cast.
