I wouldn't be surprised to see him responding so to my post, I absolutely abhor most forum mods and GMs. They generally are nothing but people on power trips. I also have no scruples about being kind in my opinion.

No, just...the lot. All of you. Did it ever occur to you that part of why some forum mods turn into utter power-tripping arseholes is because people like you drive them over the edge? I have no real love for the mods here, especially the one that moved my wonderful thread to off-topic, but they do their job. More importantly, they interact with threads for more reasons than just to make sure the kids aren't pulling each other's hair and scratching and biting.

Zeto, tpapp and whiteboy are some of the best forum moderators I've encountered over the years. Their job's only going to get harder as this game gets bigger, too.

...I used to mod forums. I'm fairly sure that should come as no surprise to anyone. So you'll forgive me a little of my sympathy for their duties, voluntary though they may be.

I agree with Charan, mods here seem pretty cool. The Protective Team Moderation Squad of Justice Group did what a single moderator couldn't do which is democratically ending a really really terrible thread full of stupid crap and very little info other than one guy posting pictures then the other guy saying NUH UHHHHHHH THAT ONE BAD AND THIS ONE BATTAR CUZ I GAY(1) FOR IT AND YOU ARE GAY(2) FOR NOT BEING GAY(1) FOR THE GAME IM GAY(1) FOR.

1) Homosexual word for in love.
2) Derrogatory term for someone you dont like.

I don't drive people off edges. I state what I have experienced.

If its due to trolls driving people off edges, its still not an excuse.

I said nothing directly against these mods, but as a prolific forumite, I find that keeping a generally cautious-leaning-towards-anger disposition against mods in general as doing more good then bad. Even if they hate me.

In truth I love this game, I enjoy the forums. I don't want to see the forums vacated becuase a random mod decides that power is fun.

Would you forgive me if I retain some hope that a random mod won't be allowed to behave in that way, given the devs do monitor these boards? This topic was fine to start with. Now it's been off topic for multiple pages because people feel the need to change the subject by personally attacking others with whom they don't agree. Trolling, personal attacks, and rude behavior often lead to periods of probation. Accounts have been permanently banned for excessive trolling and thread derailment.

GGG is very lenient with what they allow to be posted on the forum. Most game forums are strictly moderated; this one isn't. People are free to post their ideas and opinions as long as they don't violate the Terms of Use. Keep in mind that rules are made out of necessity. The less need for rules, the less rules are made.

We don't just delete threads that displease us. And you are right, there aren't many rules here... it's sorta like cut-throat mode on the forums.

The only rules are that you remain civil with each other... as long as you do that, you can talk about almost anything you want, in any way you want... and sometimes even troll each other until you're blue in the face.

On other forums many of the things talked about here would be locked and those participating would be put on probation or banned outright. Blizzard does this quite a bit.

Threads will get disrupted by trolls.. that's life on a forum. We expect that people will handle it reasonably, and if not, we do try to step in, as Whiteboy did here.

Leading everyone back on track is up to those that wish to participate in the germane subject... if it continues off course then we'll lock it and perhaps slap some people on the way out for continuing with the hostilities.

In either case, I haven't observed mods on a power trip here. I've seen what you're talking about in other forums... and I've seen forums without any moderation. I find that the POE boards are fairly calm, with the occasional minor scuffle, and appropriate moderation... and trust me, if I feel that people aren't doing what I would do on a regular basis, I will certainly speak up about it.
