MosesPlays put out a 30 min video for arc trapper, I cleared the Atlas!
Was my first real success, but come on, it's arc traps, can you f it up??? It really depends on what you as a new player can do. By the time I tried this I had game knowledge and when he was telling me "YOU DON'T NEED ANYTHING" at least 20 times in the video, well I started to believe him. The first thing I look for in the guide is the catch, where is the 20-100 ex item that is the only thing holding this build together? If I don't see one, I roll with it. Many guides are under the assumption that money comes easy, or that you know something about the game. I feel Ziz really does spoon feed casuals and noobs, I've watched his videos and I think he does a fine job. I mean shit, he plays HCSSF and blows up the atlas every league so I am sure he knows what he's talking about. He does seem to point out often that resistances, life matter, but I honestly have not tried a build of his. But I have watched a few of his guides and he really seems to break it down well. Especially his POBs by level. I guess in closing, if you aren't really following the guide, then it isn't the guide makers fault is it? A lot of people think ziz's builds are weird because he plays hc, but the difference between the builds for top hc and sc players are not that much different.
Ziz's guides are kind of wack in general. In legion he put out a guide for his slayer. It had RT and masterful form and the tree wasn't optimized much at all. RT became obsolete from the accuracy changes and masterful form is only a viable option for ultra min-maxed builds, aka nothing close to a league starter. like what... If really want to follow a guide, the best out there is just looking up whatever is on poe ninja. If you see a majority of top players building a certain way on poe ninja, there's a good reason for it. This is way better than relying on 1 single person's opinion. |

ALL guides are pretty much meaningless until you get the super gear or required tier 1 or 2 uniques to make them work.
They'll give you a build path, that's pretty much it. If RNG shits on you and you get no gear, or don't have the 9999 exalts required for the specific gear, you're hosed. And the streamers are out there snapping up all of the uniques 'featured' in their builds hours, if not days, before they release the build - or before they begin a stream that will have those uniques shine. Use the guides as just that - basic frameworks. Most will not work for you. Patch Notes 3.15:
Fixed a bug where players believed the game was playable. This has been corrected and made retroactive. Patch Notes 3.19: Fixed a bug where players adapted to 3.15. This bug cannot be corrected, so we have implemented a 90% reduction in item access as a punishment. |

Zizaran is a funny and good dude, especially with the Method drama, but his guides aren't all that great imo, at least for newer players. His guides tend towards people who aren't going to spend 12-20 hours doing the story, and instead are seasoned players who are going to rush through to maps with the knowledge of how to craft things as you go along.
I tried using his VD Necromancer guide, but it was so rambly and bloated. |
