Maligaros Is going to make me quit PoE
I do not mind tough, I've played WoW since 2005 and raid bosses keep getting tougher every expansion. I play D3 and, while I am not a leader board rated player, I can do 100+ level greater rifts.
I was having a great time with PoE until Magigaros. I guess the elite players can just zip through it. I just started playing about 2 weeks ago and had no trouble getting to level 59. It wasn't easy and I am still learning. But Maligaros goes beyond learning and being tough. One thing i learned about the game is to expect death and having to start a boss fight over after dying is something I know about it both WoW and D3. But to have to re-clear trash mobs to get to the boss fight and find both the spider and Maggie at full health is too much. My first try I killed the spider and died as Maggie died. Unfortunately, I had to re-energize the portals (because the trash had been kicking my butt) only to find that not only did all the trash respawn but so did the bosses. So now I am stuck. I cannot progress any farther because there is no way I can not die killing the trash to get to the bosses.. I was having fun and decided to spend about what I do for WoW as a subscription ever 3 months so as to support the PoE developers. Well, I guess I just wasted my first payment. Too bad. I was really enjoying playing until this sadistic quest. My hat is off to all you who git by this quest. Last bumped on Jun 12, 2020, 5:07:41 AM

a bit of history: maligaro has been the first boss where ggg abandoned their principle of simple boss fights and tried to obfuscate the battlefield with a blur of effects.
players hated it but it's been only difficult until there was more content after maligaro. his damage was nerfed and now it's easy for the majority of longtime players cause they're experienced with the effects and their damage. they know, that, it maligao makes a dive, they shouldn't stand where he spawns cause it's a one shot. in fact, maligaro is a test for the multitude of blurred boss fights that awaits you in much much nore obfuscated form. and you only get some shots at them per league to learn them in difference to maligaro where you have unlimited tries in softcore offline Last edited by cronus#1461 on Jun 11, 2020, 4:57:36 PM

Simple. the game is "hardcore" game that either you need to copy someone build and learn to id what gear is good or trash. Or figure them out all by yourself by die trying may be 1000 times.
The Act7 fight is a mock up of how map work. (or you can call it tutorial) It only have 6 portals usually and most people only die in boss room or league content but not trash mob. I can't even recall the last time I died there, if ever. Even on league starters with janky mid-act gear. Everything Maligaro does besides basic attacks is telegraphed (even if you don't know what's coming, you know something is--so move), which is the case for nearly all boss encounter mechanics.
I would advise using Decoy Totem in such situations while you're learning or just struggling. It can be a huge help, even with cheesing some harder stuff later on. I have a pretty good sense of humor. I'm not German.

Welcome to Path of Exile!
First of all, the hard truth you need to know: Diablo 3 is an incredibly easy game. It holds your hand and spoonfeeds you all the way through, and because you have no agency over your build you cannot make any mistakes. POE is not that game. If what you want is another simplistic game like Diablo 3 you are unlikely to find the experience you're looking for here. If, on the other hand, you really are the kind of old school gamer who always looks for a challenge, you'll find that POE is a far deeper and more rewarding experience BECAUSE it expects you to earn your accomplishments. For point of reference, by the way: Act 7 Maligaro means you're 3/4 of the way through the game's tutorial. |

Equip some Chaos Resistance.
I believe Maligaro is one of the first bosses that uses Chaos Damage against the player, so some Chaos Resist is good if you are not used to his telegraphs. However, prepare for further bosses to be even harder and less forgiving, particularly Doedre in the sewers. She has a unique cauldron mechanic that you need to activate to clear the stacks of debuffs from you, which she quickly applies during the fight. Last edited by Dbri#3104 on Jun 11, 2020, 11:38:12 PM

I assume you have a ranger. If it's your very first build in POE, I would strongly recommend you not to make a ranger. It is very difficult for weapon-based characters for newcomers because you need upgrade your gear as you progress to keep up with the monsters in the area. This means you need to be either knowledgeable in crafting or trading or be very lucky with item drops.
On top of them, I see that you have not gotten your first ascendancy too. Ascending might help a significantly if you are having issues with dealing damage or survivability. You could try a making a caster with spells such as Arc, such builds could keep up easier simply by leveling the skill gem. |

" Yes, ranger is the hardest to play. Almost everyone boss in later act just 1 shot the ranger. Same Life builds with a different class is much easier Lmao. Ranger is a epic fail class for GGG and that why you wont ever see anyone from GGG playing or showing videos on rangers. It is really unplayable. It extremely difficult to go deathless from 3.10 even if u have a 6 slot armor. |

They should add difficulty settings when choosing the character class. Scion/Ranger as hard, Witch and Templar as easy ones. Everything else may be medium I guess.
New player experience does matter, so I wouldn't mind if the game showed some tips against act bosses for first-timers when they die which explain some of the fights mechanics The opposite of knowledge is not illiteracy, but the illusion of knowledge.
