Ask this question in something like LTT forum or Tom's Hardware forum, you will get proper suggestions from people who actually know what they are talking about. Never ask things like these on random game forum, or you will end up with ''8gb vram is required, 4 is low'' which for most budged builds is an idiotic statement.
Your best bet is Tom's Hardware, those forums are full of tech geeks that have been around computers for decades, and will answer in detail to any question you have.
P.S. never buy hardware for a specific game, that's an awful way to go about it.
I appreciate the advice, I only asked here because I was looking for anyone actually playing the game on similar hardware. I also agree that asking about a single game is not a great idea, but it's the only game I play apart from an hour or two, here and there, on Grim Dawn. Too old and no time to play anything else.

Thanks for the links.
According to those charts, the proposed CPU is 2597. I would have bought a 2600x but I can't get one now. That would have been 3048.
The proposed GPUs are all quite close:
5500XT - 4806
GTX1650S - 4735
RX580 - 4387
I'd need to compare those figures with performance in games. I wish there were a PoE benchmark feature...
Actually, if Vulkan proves to be better than DirectX, AMD might be better choice as they have much better Vulkan support, otherwise I would go Nvidia as they have better stability.
Personally, I switched from nvidia 1070 to amd 5700xt some time ago and while I am satisfied with the choice in terms of performance, I cannot say the same for the stability. It improved drastically since the card release, but black screens now and then still plagues 5XXX series (RX580 should be fine).

I did think about the state of Vulkan, although Nvidia do seem to have a driver with 1.2 support.
Regarding the 5xxx cards, I'd read the very latest drivers/software (20.5.1) have really improved things in terms of stability, is that not the case?

Nvidia has 1.2 support, but only in beta drivers (so not stable family). As both Intel and AMD are supporting 1.2 for quite a few months in stable drivers, it gives you to picture about Nvidia priorities.
It still is an issue. Running 20.5.1 and just few hours ago my browser window went black while playing video. It is now mostly isolated to applications, so it does not crash/hang whole system, but still it is present (although frequency of that has decreased somewhat, from several times per day, to like once per week).

Thanks for that, really good to know.

For anyone reading this thread I just found

Something to consider is the power consumption of the GPUs. A less power hungry card may save you money within a year's usage, depending on the power cost in your area. Also consider installing windows ltsc.

One other thing to consider is your storage. Do you have an SSD drive? If not try and get just a really cheap SATA 2.5 SSD as it will make a huge difference when playing Path of Exile.
PC Picker is a good site to look for hardware.
E.g.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7x4NnQ/pny-cs900-120gb-25-solid-state-drive-ssd7cs900-120-pb
Is a 120GB hd for US $21.99

Thanks, that's a good point. Fortunately I'd already made that purchase. However, I'd like to upgrade to an m2. Maybe after Christmas...
