[Guide] Windows 10 Build 2004 + Nvidia Driver update - 3x FPS Boost !
![]() Just updated windows 10 pro, from build 1909 to build 2004 this morning. Tried to play path of exile Fps is 37-60 ping ms is 52-68, with random spikes up to 517 Even though I deleted the poe folder in the documents for fresh settings, Same results. Game seems to run Extra Quality, nice, and smooth, but then character/movements start to get slightly slower, and then fps slightly drops to 37 ish, and then character movements are like rapid fire for 2 sec... Same thing while in hideout/town Already did a speedtest @ speedtest.net 10ms to nearest server, very stable. No missing / bad packets. Cpu %58 ram 7/32gb SSD1% gpu 42% All temps below 50c ---------------------------------------------- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10%20 Windows 10 May 2020 Update (Build 2004) https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3067 Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) V18.0.2.5 released. Nvidia Driver https://developer.nvidia.com/directx NVIDIA DirectX Ultimate Developer Preview Driver [450.99] Note: Download and install update Download the Driver uninstaller, and new driver. Unplug internet, uninstall the old driver/drivers ( some have old versions sitting around lol ) Restart computer Install the new nvidia driver restart computer again Then plug internet back in, otherwise if you don't unplug the internt while you do these steps.... once old driver is uninstalled. Windows 10 will automatically Instantly install Old generic 320.00 driver. -------------------- Before starting path of exile again. Run Dxdiag Verify that you are running the latest drivers should say driver model WDDM 2.7 Then I recommend visiting. C:\Users\yourname\Documents\My Games\Path of Exile delete that folder, that way you get all fresh settings. ( not required but just recommended ) Enjoy your 3-4x FPS rate ! :D " I Personally didn't need to fallow these steps, DDU said i had defaults already, and I didn't run it in safemode. Some of you may experience different issues depending on hardware ect. So you may have to fallow those steps. Good Luck. I had some initial performance issues when I switched over to 2004 but I also switched to Vulkan at the same time...
It took me several days and lots of trial and error to get relatively stable game play. It's still not great but I put that down do the beta renderer and old hardware. I was also not able to revert to DX11 and get the same performance I had before Vulkan. That may or may not be an issue with 2004. Did you upgrade your GPU drivers to the latest with support for 2004. It uses an updated WDDM 2.7. Last edited by Kellog#5737 on Jun 9, 2020, 12:59:07 AM

" As far as I know, the preview drivers 450.99 supports WDDM 2.7. Can't say anything about them as I'm on AMD. Last edited by Kellog#5737 on Jun 9, 2020, 7:00:13 AM

" When you use DDU, make sure you run the application from 'Safe Mode'. After you launch the program, on the right hand side, you'll see an option to stop Microsoft installing their drivers. Run the 'Clean and Restart' then install the new drivers. Last edited by Kellog#5737 on Jun 9, 2020, 7:52:37 AM

Well, did everything the guide says, my average fps went from maybe 90fps to... a 100 fps? It's far from "3X" hehehe. Maybe the guide works great for old setups, but relatively new machines won't see much difference.

" That is certainly a possibility. Hardware & internet will certainly play factor into it. But hey thats still another 10 fps you didn't have before :D Everything counts, especially if your on a laptop or old pc, seeing 24 fps, and hope to see 30 :D Last edited by conetopia#3059 on Jun 10, 2020, 7:22:05 AM

I updated to the 2004 build today, too. but I still use the 446.14 Driver from Nvidia (using a 1080Ti) as it's the highest I can "get", atleast from Geforce experience and the website. Haven't been able to play since.
Does the 450.99 fix this? I am already troubleshooting this issue for 8 hours now... I already did a clean reinstall of PoE (standalone AND Steam Version), did a Driver reinstall with DDU, etc. etc. |
