His "investment" choice is not very good. I guess he simply wanted to "pump" up map cost, to look like it's not worth investing. For ex legion scarab in shore map is not a good choice, it's much better in wide open maps, than in narrow linear one. And also, using single gilded legion scarab is very bad choice, to make them worthwhile, you need to get sextant mod + use legion map device mod, so you get 3 upgraded legions, instead of 1. Same with most of other gilded scarabs.

My usual invests are:
- 4 sextants (white/yellow, can't remember new names), no rerolling for "good" mods.
- 4 chisels and alch, I don't spend chaoses to get 80iiq on map instead of 77iiq. Not worth it.
- scarabs: harbringer+breach+strongbox (never gilded, rusted or polished)
- map mod: Casia
- master: Jun/Zana (I do zana only if she offers special map, skip her if she gives you usual maps)

And after running 30 maps I end up with much more than 1ex return.

But ofc you can always stack up not the best investments for YOU (if it works for streamers, doesn't mean it will work for you), put very strict loot filter and then say that investments are bad.
It's like people who kill 10% of mobs in map and says that they can't sustain their t15 maps.

Also he got a lot of different maps, which means he didin't set up his favourite maps, which can lead into big moneyzz as well.
But hopefuly, his research will discourage people from investing into maps, so these scarabs/chisels/etc are cheaper for me ^^
