Why doesn't Kitava's telepathic rage fill the NPCs of the Act 5 town? I'm not sure. Why doesn't Kitava mindfuck you? Uh, Sin maybe? Why isn't Lilly Roth a cannibal by the time you get to her? Again, fuck if I know.

I'd assume you have to be susceptible to the telepathic suggestion, so either your greed/gluttony level is high enough or you're open to it on the grounds of being a religious fanatic and not using your head much.
So, templars and your scumbag neighbor Vadim would succumb to Kitava's influence easily, Utula and his cultists even willingly, but Bannon never fully believed in what he was doing. Lani only tags along with Utula and his bunch to get the numbers they need, and Lili apparently has a moral code of sorts and knows which is the healthy amount of greed, I'd imagine every pirate that hasn't been caught yet does.

Now that I think of it, that ship from oriath was the strangest that ever sailed, it was full of essentially decent people.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

well if you make a league with skulls and dead shit they ll have to change it for china anyway so why bother.
Yep.
Yep.
Uh huh.
When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

after we kill avarius/innocence it proceeds right to the cult take over. There's no intrigue or rapidly approaching danger, it's templars then cultists with no interplay between the factions. We fight a giant 60 foot tall statue man, who blasts us with a corruption beam, and then there's no changes to our character.
First, I wasn't aware there was any intrigue to be had. I thought it was more a case of Kitava having some kind of AoE mind control, but which was being blocked by Innocence. So basically as much "intrigue" as Magneto getting his helmet knocked off in front of Charles Xavier. That's why the burning temple enemies are all Kitava-themed versions of the earlier Innocence-based Templar. It simply doesn't make sense as "competing factions," because the exact same guy who was following Innocence 20 minutes ago is a Kitava zealot now.

But if they were actually going for competing religions... among the ranks of Templar... in a theocratic state... well, that's a tough sell no matter how you slice it, and I didn't get that impression for a second. I mean, I got that Utula was pro-Kitava, but I assumed that cult didn't extend beyond a small band of slaves and resistance fighters.

Second, there is a permanent change to your character after the first Kitava fight: the first set of resistance penalties.

Back in synthesis it was mentioned that cultists had infiltrated the templar, and that they were out to infiltrate certain key but low level positions like gate keepers etc so that the rest of his maddened followers could sweep through the town. However, we never encounter these types. We just encounter more of the same templar, just devoted to a different god now. As to the resistance penalty, I knew you'd argue about that. It's a fair point, but in the context you would think that rather than getting stronger (the penalty) when we kill him, it should instead revert because we've banished him. His afflictions should fade like in the town, but instead it's still there. And there's no physical changes to the town or the people in it besides widespread destruction.
GGG is not the same anymore.

Early days felt so much more appropriate in PoE.

Now they start to do some gardening leagues which is something taken out of the disneyland.

Not hyped about this garden simulator at all.
New mute system is terrible - no trade...

Smells like recency bias. I honestly don't see how Harvest League inherently any worse than, say, Perandus League as far as fitting a horror theme goes. I think it was clear AGES ago that league mechanics are just random new content, chosen for the sake of new content and NOT for the refinement of the game's overall narrative or style.

Ehh. one could argue perandus was part of the downhill trend to visual overload.

I would go so far as to say that it marked the start of the color pallet league as a concept.

Before that , there was none. Not in warbands, not in tempest, not in torment or bloodlines beyond or invastion.

But perandus? Solid gold spam
followed by prophecy .. Solid purple spam

Then when we hit breach things simply spiraled out of control since it was the first league the heavily rewarded the clear speed meta.

And that is the thing the "horror" vibe behind early poe was not just about how many skulls were used or not used or how dark something was. It was the pacing that mattered too.

Darkness was important to be sure, but it turns out the game can be scary when your character cannot run at the speed of sound and explode everything in big massive particle effects.

It was about being exiled to a dark , unforgiving hellscape that would murder you easily.

Now it is mostly a loot pinata game. To the point where we have demystified the monsters of the game so much that we can now literally farm them like some mundane vegetables .

It is a bit sad
Scrot, You are so funny. quality imput as always. You wanna hangout together in discord with me sometimes?
