Path of Exile Twitter and Facebook

Hi guys,

A while ago, we set up Twitter (@pathofexile) and Facebook (facebook.com/pathofexile) profiles, and have been posting frequent news updates there for the last few months. We find these tools really useful for letting fans know about updates as they occur, so we'd like to encourage you to follow/like these accounts if you use those services.

We're going to try to post even more frequent updates as we get more followers. All sorts of funny or interesting things happen that could be tweeted if there were enough people watching.

We'll also be running some spot competitions at some stage where random Twitter or Facebook followers get prizes such as t-shirts or perhaps even beta access.

If you have any ideas for interesting stuff that we can post or tweet about, please let me know.

I really dislike web 2.0, so I would prefer if all the updates and competitions would be available on the official forums too :P

Nowadays sites force people to login with a facebook account to comment or use certain features. I think it is fine to give people the option to do so, but it should never be the only option :)
I can't say that I'm terribly keen about checking more than one site for updates. But if it means we get more updates on a regular basis then I may consider.

And by update I mean something substantial and not "Hey guys. I just made something cool but I can't tell you what it is." I hate when developers say things like that.

Well I don't use facebook or twitter so I hope that doesn't exclude me from cool things.
I recently signed up for both just for PoE. Plus I got sick of people looking at me like I'm an alien when I told them I wasn't on facebook.
I am a poor freezingly cold soul
So far from where
I intended to go
why am i being told to go to these sites for info when i signed up here? this is where the news should go first and then be added to the others.
it seems to be becoming the norm among games companies to force people to use these sites.
this is what i mean by forcing:(

way to exclude the people who were here supporting you first!

at this very moment i have six seperate tabs open for the sites i am a member of, theres no way i'm signing up to two more

annoyed!:(

I'm sorry that people got upset about this post. We just want to encourage existing Facebook/Twitter users to follow us, because many of them might not know we have profiles on these sites.

It's by no means mandatory. You can of course continue to check pathofexile.com as your primary news source. Once we are posting interesting non-news updates to Twitter frequently, it won't be too hard to condense them together into occasional forum posts.

With regard to competitions or spot prizes, I can assure you that there will also be similar rewards for forum users.

I have personally never used Facebook before, and see exactly where you're coming from.

We're trying to grow our communities on these social networking sites. They're powerful tools for promoting a game and the more users we have the better the game will be. Even if you don't want to use them yourself, just be aware these profiles exist in case you sign up one day :)

I get why people aren't keen on signing up for Facebook and Twitter when they're already signed up on the official forums.

However, more followers on Facebook/Twitter will mean people are more comfortable joining these groups.

More people = more interest in the game = more players = better gaming experience for you.

It's a pretty small sacrifice for something that will be ultimately be beneficial for you personally.
