Catalyst/Annulment Crafting

Hey.

Ive been crafting a lot these past weeks, trying to pass the time in these corona times.

Before anyone fly into a road rage; this is not the widely discussed topic about annulment eating catalyst quality. On the contrary, its the opposite.

Ive been using catalysts to enhance the chances of keeping the mods that i want on items.
However, it seems to me that the effect might be reversed.
9 times out of 10, its the exact mod that ive been buffing with catalysts to 20% quality, that the orb of annulment removes, and its on items with 4-6 mods.

So either the orb of annulment is working exactly the opposite way that its supposed to (when crafting with catalysts) or ive been astronomically unlucky.

Any others with experience on this issue?

Kind regards, Me!

i think your understanding of how it works is just opposite.

catalyst quality makes currency favour certain mods. why wouldn't orb of annulment be any different? it favours its use (removal) of the qualitied mods

Thats exactly what I thought, and its what would make sense, but reading the explanation on the orb of annulment, it should work the way ive been using it.

ORB OF ANNULMENT
"Right click this item then left click on a magic or rare item to apply it. The item's Catalyst quality decreases the chance of removing a modifier which matches the quality type. Removes 20% Quality applied by Catalysts on use."
Basically to prevent devaluation of the catalysts they added changes to facilitate a constant need.

Which I still think is a bit lame considering crafting costs are why it becomes such a gamble in the first place. Instead of encouraging crafting by more people it discourages it.

I mean catalysts are only rewarded in very particular instances, you'd think that be enough.
Yep, totally over league play.
I'd be curious to hear other's experiences with this as well. I've been debating about using an annulment on certain jewelry pieces I have. My belt in particular has tier one life, % life, and life recovery rate (all of which are "life") and cold resist on it. I have no need for the cold resist (I'm at 130%) so I was hoping to annul it off and multicraft but I don't want to risk loving the life or % life.

sounds like you have an open suffix, craft prefixes cannot be changed, then you cannot annul the life or life%, just the resist, life recovery rate or the craft.
wow
i have not actually read annul orb in a long time
i had no idea this worked like that hahahahaha

Wouldn't surprise me.
Pretty sure certain mods have an intrinsic weight for removal.

Temple mods, crafted mods, and essence/subterranean/fossil crafted mods are often the first to go when you hit something with an annul.

Influenced items seem to have their own set of rules. The lower the intrinsic weight of a certain Shaper prefix is, for instance, the more readily it is lost when annulling. That makes it far more likely to lose uncommonly-rolled or rarely rolled affixes from influence pools (and good news for people who want to keep their commonly rolled ones that are still BiS or strong).

The wiki doesnt say much about the mechanics of catalysts and i skipped metamorph league.

Does anything other than annulment orb remove quality e.g. exalts and so on?
