OH THE IRONY.
The complete lack of self-awareness in this reply would be hilarious if it weren't also so sad.

Blaming the victim of a rape for being out after dark is not the same as blaming a video game player for not taking a few seconds to look and verify before clicking accept.
THIS, right HERE, is the point that seems to have utterly eluded your comprehension my friend. By saying victim blaming for "scamming" is the same as victim blaming for RAPE AND ASSAULT, OP is directly equating them. And THAT is the part I would hope any decent person would object to, in the strongest possible terms.
Sorry but no, you can try to save face by reading into the OP's comment more than was stated but this is purely you fabricating more to the statement in order to make your argument less absurd after the fact (see your quote below).
Regardless, even your fabrication of what you wanted them to have said is nonsense because you are assuming your conclusion in your argument. You conclude these people have more blame therefor it is different and therefor you react melodramatically. THAT is the problem with your ridiculous post.
More over lets examine your ACTUAL comment:
"
You REALLY don't see a difference between a person who is the victim of a violent, life-altering (sometimes even life-ending) crime and someone who allows their own greed and/or laziness to enable someone taking advantage of them and "stealing" some make believe money in a videogame?
Just... wow. This is maybe the single worst take I've ever seen in this subforum, and that was a HIGH bar to clear.
You are claiming here that the compared a victim of a violent crime to being scammed. You didn't claim they compared the victim blaming inappropriately because there were differences in the responsibility for the two situations. No, that argument was saved for when you got called out and had to cover your ass.
Regardless, feel free to make some more crap up, or just..ya know...admit you overreacted and wanted to save face. Happens to a lot of people on the internet but you don't have to be one of the ones who doubles and triples down.
Either way, have a nice life~
I mean that right there is a fine example of how the internet experience has degraded since the days of AoL Chatrooms and dial-up. Back then the big worry was child predators.
These days everyone wants to flout opinions but so few are willing to take any responsibility for what they say should it meet controversy.
It wasn't about "covering ass"... it was about the person responding not comprehending what was originally being said the first time around. A lot of folks on the internet love to yell but can't read between the lines. So, sometimes they have to have it spelled out for them, for being dense and all that.
Yep, totally over league play.

Scammers suck. They go completely against the community spirit we're trying to foster, and their actions harm people's confidence in us, but know that we are not doing nothing - we have and will continue to ban accounts who scam other players. If you are running in-game scams on other players, you are putting your account at risk of permanent closure.
If you encounter someone attempting to scam you (or fall victim to a scam of some type) please email the name of the account or the character name, as well as the nature of the scam, to support@grindinggear.com so that we can review the report. We do have a duty as a company to ensure that all accounts are treated fairly, and not judged prematurely on accusations that haven't been proven. To borrow a term, we do not condone "witch hunts". This is why we do not allow "naming and shaming" on our forums or in-game. If you see a scam, report it to us.
Why not add option in game report button for scamming? Currently it allows report for spam and some other not so important things. Is it hard or just because your message centre will be flooded with complaints because its so easy to access report button?

Our exact criteria for an account being banned or locked for scamming is not something we can divulge (as that would give scammers a certified way to skirt our policies), but I can 100% confirm that the email reports we receive regarding scammers are extremely helpful. As one of the people dealing with these reports and taking moderation action on scammers myself, I can confirm this with absolute certainty.
Thanks for the clarity regarding this topic! I would like to suggest that this information be added to the game itself some how because as far as I'm aware there is no indication that scamming is not allowed. Having this information in game would probably result in less people scamming and a higher percentage of scammers being reported.
Also, instead of publishing the exact criteria for an account being banned, maybe you should publish the exact criteria that put your account

It's unreasonable to close people's accounts without any specific policy in place.

It wouldn't, as making an account is free. An experienced scammer might even guess the right "ban threshold" value after losing several mule accounts so he can "salvage" the real items in time, hehe.

At least some people will make different decisions based on what they think the game rules are. For example, if botting was allowed, I would probably run one to map with me and pick up my currency. I don't do that because it's against the rules.
If they think scamming is allowed (which it is if there is no policy against it) then they are probably more likely to do it. Also, since there is no rule against scamming specifically, it seems that GGG is exercising their right to ban people for any or no reason without any overall official guidance. They could just say that scamming can result in a ban without defining scamming. They would effectively still be using their ability to arbitrarily ban people, but most reasonable users will be able to identify what is and isn't scamming and act accordingly.
For example, I fell for some stupid trade scam a while ago (it was avoidable by paying attention. either fake 6L or currency swap) and didn't report it because I just assumed it wasn't against the rules.

Thanks for the confirmation! I know it's an unending game of whack-a-mole, but it's comforting to hear you guys are trying. We've all run into them from time to time, but I think their prevalence may be overstated. I'd guess I only come across a scammer a few times per league tops. I think the community is overall a good one, and whatever bans are being enforced are helping.

Are we going to cry that GGG is scamming the scammers by not explicitly telling them which scams are illegal? I haven't seen any evidence that people are getting their accounts closed for minor, one-off trade mistakes. If you're sitting there pissing people off 24/7 by trying to perform bogus trades all day, I don't feel bad that you don't get to feel safe and cozy knowing that you've found some loophole in a set of explicitly defined violations. "Wraeclast is a brutal place", as they like to say.

The community would be a better place if more players took responsibility (like you did) instead of expecting support to fix a problem you created whether it be accidental or not.
If the staff didn't have to contend with so many potential bogus requests we'd probably see a lot more action against the major violators.
Yep, totally over league play.

i'm quite irritated.
the trade screen was introduced as a means of doing a safe trade, both parties are encouraged to exchange items in the screen until both factions are ok with the traded content and press ok.
how comes that you obviously ban players' accounts that do exactly what you intended to achieve with the trade screen?
if you think players abuse the trade screen (yes, some abuse the false expectatation some newbs have using it), why don't you just change the thing to something more appropriate?
there can only be a technical solution to the problem!
trying to scare off scammers? i give you the "don quichotte award of windmill fighting" for that in the best case, in the worst i blame you for wasting our supporter money for useless actions with no real outcome except having something to do at work.

Funny, Sarah, I've been told otherwise by support when me and my buddy emailed you regarding one particular account that attempted to scam us on the same day.
Sitting in HO spamming alts for 4 hours straight is peak PoE gameplay. Thanks, Chris.

You don't have to worry about this unless you are a trade scammer.
