As for alva, IMHO its the second best thing ggg made after delve, the problem is temple rares dropping everywhere so nobody farms temple for them. The rest has some uniques/affixes associated with them which some builds use and in general are purely optional. I remember being annoyed at this issue back when they first introduced Agate, Citrine and Turquoise amulets into the game; cause it made no sense because we have Onyx amulets which gives all stats. Which Onyx implicits got nerfed afterwards. Same thing with two stone rings, etc vs the Prismatic rings.
The game has gotten more and more convoluted over the years; items, mechanics, you name it. Even the atlas now, with these "watchstones"(still seems weird having those in the game now; yet we still cant use leaguestones). So yeah, I get the point; wanting to stop the breaking down of everything into needless parts. Another perfect example would be cards. Instead of having the item itself drop, we get cards that we have to stack. In some cases having to stack just to get another card that's part of another stacking.
