please don't spoon feed the progression... encourage exploring.

there are too many rpg's that lead you from one linear area to another and PoE doesn't need to join their ranks.

if you can't spend 30 seconds exploring the room brutalis is in (and discover the big chest and exit) then I really don't know what to say.

are people really that stupid? (rhetorical question)

I was wondering how to make a post without using the words "stupid" or "idiot," but wasn't sure it would be possible, lol.

Since you did, I feel relieved as I don't have to. I can just say that for someone to get a game, and rather than PLAYING THE GAME and FINDING where things are, to spam the chat with ridiculous questions just because it's there ... is extremely aggravating to other players.

I can understand not knowing how long the beta is (except that the forums make it obvious if you read a little, but maybe not everyone has time), but not looking at your screen or map for what to do, where to click, anything ... come on. Are we children? Is this a kid's game?

I mean, I'm not sure how this should be handled either, other than by having a n00b chat specifically set-up so that they can go there and have bots answer the basic questions once per minute or so.

During the Open Weekend it was really bad, because the same thing would be asked over and over. "Where do I go now" and "how do I level a gem" and "where do I buy scrolls of wisdom" and even "I just started and I'm on a beach. What do I do?" over and over made me glad I had Legacy to go back to. But that's not the case for everyone, and won't necessarily be the case for long.

An instruction manual would be really nice, but honestly the problem with the chat might just be that it's abused because it's there right in the game. Maybe they need to make channels outside of the actual game world.

I would think most people would naturally just move onto the next area if there's nothing apparent to do where you are.

If this lack of an active quest is really stumping people from concluding that exploring the next zone is what they should be doing then maybe the npcs at the shore encampment should tell you about the dangers that lurk ahead after Brutus is defeated.

Basically just have them give you the start of the kill Merveil quest after Brutus dies.

This actually isn't a bad idea. But one of the problems has to do with people not using their maps to find the exits, after Brutus and also Merviel, and asking where to go because of that (I mean, the doors are RIGHT THERE, how are they not seen?).

Well, we can't solve all the issues, but this one might at least alleviate THAT one. :)

I wouldn't mind if the Brutus resolution careened straight into the hunt for Merveil. Not at all. In fact, it wouldn't be that hard to make that work narratively.

And Das, I'm fairly sure Gus meant me. I'm equally sure I don't care.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
Just wait till they add voice acting for after you killed Brutus, then people will know where to go next...
