Why Melee will always suck

Wouldn't mind one or two more of these as well!

I agree with VictorDoom here, the incoming damage is the problem, not the outgoing. However, since ranged and melee share the skill tree, just decreasing the incoming damage does not help ranged/melee balance.

My idea was to add a Keystone that would reduce all incoming damage bay some significant amount, but would prevent you from using any projectile skills and any spell skills that aren't curses or auras.
Back in CB monsters did less damage, melee was viable, if not sought after as niche builds.

Ranged was insanely OP. OP to the point that at OB they bumped damage up to compensate.

I'll say it again, the only solution that isn't a band aid is bring ranged inline with other physical ranged sources, namely wands. If you drop monster damage, ranged will just be insanely OP again. Everything else comes in line once ranged is balanced.

Spells require a lot of investment to get them to the point where they just nuke everything. They also come with many drawbacks, such as less life, ability to be stunned easier, and status effects.

The problem with that is it becomes a necessary keystone. Frankly resolute technique is madatory as well. Accuracy and crit are too costly to invest in for melee chracters. Take resolute saves like 5-7 points worth of accuracy and crit is a terrible idea after that. The keystone you're suggesting would be just as mandatory which is silly. Instead they should apply that to melee weapons IMO.

Why not hide such damage reductions inside melee damage keystones? The Duelist his first melee damage node also gives him some life, so it's similar to that. At the same time those nodes wouldn't be of much use to ranged classes at all, especially if the damage reduction isn't all that big in each node, but becomes significant after taking a good amount of melee damage related nodes. Most melee builds probably invest in such nodes already anyway, while ranged builds don't.
I don't picture GGG fixing this anytime soon(by soon I mean ever). Their heart is set on too many anti-melee mechanics.
agree with op. although i believe its gonna take a LONG time before we see the system fixed.

edit-@logoonpoe I like that idea!!!

edit#2@cruxation I also like that option as well!!!

Really i like to play melee, but in PoE i hate it. Its not because how Armour/Evasion works. Im aware that the defensive mechanic purpose is, that you cant outgear certain enemies, and that would make the game challangeing. And if Range Classes have a bigger advantage is for me irrelevant. The main problem is the desync. Most people dont realize it, but most of the deaths is because of desync. You keep the damage while you dont see it and it appears as a damagespike after it, you cant heal against it or simply you will hit from more enemies as you see on the screen. I dont think they will fix this issue in the near future. Think about it: They keep pushing gems per Week instead of fixing this issues. But isnt a BETA all about fixing those things and final about game improvement? With open Beta they tasted the sweet tasted of money. They need to keep the majority of players entertained, so they building newer character and buying stuff. Issues like HC death due desync or Melee is a small problem and its not worth for them to invest time and money to fix it. They only keep quiet about these so they dont earn a big S***tstorm. If you start to play a range class and buy from the shop its a signal for them to give them a higher priority. I dont buy anything and refuse to play caster etc. until they will fix it, even my tabs are on the verge of exploding.

I play melee EK duelist (HC, 80) and I can facetank pretty much anything with boss exceptions (which is due to lack of resists) and when I buy myself Kaom's one day I will have close to 800-1000 hp regen per second. I am in melee range in every mobpack since I don't use any projectile increasing skills or anything and I don't even kite any bosses because I just don't need to, with very few exceptions of course (and that's because my gear is bad and still dont have enough resists/armor, if I get gg gear one day I can problably afk at map brutus getting 20 slams, i already almost can at 66 one with bad gear, i sometimes just have to pop a granite if he starts spamming slams), if cyclone would had brought into the game a week earlier, I would had just gone cyclone. Melee is perfectly viable at this point, actually even more than most, since melee deals insane amounts of damage with the right gear compared to ranged. In addition, melee is supposed to be absolutely broken in terms of viability next patches.

My latest experience as melee is that I played a whirling blades, flickering strike, viper strike build and I destroyed everything (oneshot) so easily that I got so cocky like I've never got ever before and killed myself by 30 exploders (i of course had only liek 100% life nodes). Every time someone cries about melee being weak I laugh at them. IRON MAN IS HARD AND WILL SUCK WHATEVER BUILD YOU RUN.
New gaming generation reminds me of the 5 year olds crying and yelling at their parents in public stores when they don't get something they wanted.
