Enlighten - The need for it, and it's insane requirement.

This gem is more and more a requirement for builds and if the
abyssmal droprate wasn't enough, once you get it, you will spent
weeks leveling it up even when upgraded to 20% Quality.

I was given the gem by a friend at rank 2, upgraded the quality
and... i'm still miles away from reaching the 1.4billion xp require
to reach rank 3.

And to top things off, most builds requires a Rank4 gem,
which makes it needed to apply a VAAL-Gem and pray it ranks up.

I'm not saying the gem should be easily ranked up to 4 in a day,
but given that not everyone has time to sit and play PoE for
8+ hours per day every day, leveling up the game should be
abit easier - considering it almost never drops.

There are more builds out there that require a headhunter than those which REQUIRE Enlighten lvl4 or any enlighten at all.

If you can't afford it, just skip one aura. It's 10-15% dps at best in most cases.

Edit: or spec some points into aura reservation nodes around the tree if you build allows to do so. Skip some damage nodes to compensate until you have your item.

honestly i can't remember the last build i've played where i wanted to use an enlighten, and i got 6 enlighten gems in SSF blight.

so while i haven't experienced the same thing personally...eh...i dunno. i still don't really agree with saying its needed, and i don't think the requirements for it are insane either.
basically the same as empower, which i'd argue is more needed throughout builds.

also i think its a good thing that the power empower and enlighten give you needs to be "worked for" by way of its leveling, but there are ways you can expedite it.
such as Tora in whatever syndicate it is. she can give combat XP to gems. tons of it. you can do that a few times and it'll take dozens of hours off of grinding for its xp.

also, the xp grind on the gems is passive. you just need to keep playing the game (delve and atziri's are great for gem xp). so i don't see it as being too hard to do

Not a fan of those specific gems. None of my builds ever used them.

Agree 100%.

People see streamers and build guides with min/maxed everything, thinking "I need this". You don't. As said above, VERY few builds NEED an Enlighten. "Requires" is a strong word. I have never played a build that requires an Enlighten, yet I've used a level 4 one lots of times.

A level 4 Enlighten is (in most cases) a fine example of "min/max", and should therefore require some... "Effort" to acquire.

Basically all builds ive played so far need a level 3 enlighten and get a huge power boost with level 4 enlighten.

I think they should just get rid of the gem and give us more reduced mana in the skilltree again...

You can level it quite easily with Tora in syndicate, or else just buy it at level 3, corrupted.

Your profile is private, so could you show me the builds you're talking about? I'm just curious how much of a buff the enlighten actually is to those builds.

You need them if you want to squeeze every single bit out of mana(or life) reserve that you can possibly squeeze out of it. Very, very few builds actually require that though.
