" Of course Charan's vision of what he wanted from the game was/is subjective. So is everybody's vision, including Chris Wilson's. There is no objectively good way for the game to go. There are objectively profitable ways, but profitability is not even slightly a measure of a game's quality. Only its saleability. Charan wanted the Path of Exile of yesteryear - a dangerous, gritty game of tense survival and resource management, where any given critter on any given map could be your end if you didn't respect it. The Path of Exile of nowadays, the boom-and-zoom Pack Exploder where you can end two thousand critters on one map in less than two minutes before blitzing the boss down in less than three seconds, is not even slightly the game he helped fund into success years and years ago. Frankly, Chris and co are on record as wanting to get closer to that earlier ideal themselves. Chris has stated that in a perfect world, the game wouldn't even have a softcore mode and your characters would self-delete on death. But dozens and dozens of Incremental Improvements(TM) have gotten us to this point, and the game's financial success has kept us at this point. It is what it is. Charan, for all his investment, is no more able to fight it than anyone else. Even Chris. She/Her

Charan is become something of a dog whistle for nostalgic gamers who want to pretend to be 'old school' poe supporters, who really know how the game should be developed and played, and pretend some sense of superiority and/or knowledge. At least, that is what it has become. Charan's actual posts were rarely that way.
Most of these forum warriors are probably in their teens and still think their opinion matters or people care what experience they have in the game, as if playing a set amount of time in their own style relates to wisdom in courting an international audience of gamers who care nothing about how poe 'used to be', or why you think D3 is bad. |

" Nice explained. I do share his preference and think that the game became TOO fast and too f... errr u got the point. Like movies or other medias these days u need to apeal to the masses to succeed and people like explosions, particles, collor, speed etc. Well the devs expressed that they want to slowdown the game but they dont know how to do it... Maybe they find a middle term between zoom zoom and slow dungeon crawler or somehow adapt both playstyles idk. Even with the atm problems this game still the best arpg on market (my opinion) and it is clear that chriss, jonathan and crew loves the game so I still have hope for the future 4.0, poe 2, 3, 4, 5 hehe |
