6 links for every gear socket, this is a buff...or is it?

They covered this, it's called Meta Gems which allow you to socket multiple actives & supports as a single activatable skill.
Could be couldnt be. Depends how it handled. Like D3 you may have 8 skills but since most have cool-downs you put them in rotation to essentially make one spell. Could be like that or powerful AOE when you need it and single target when you need that with no cool downs.

Meta supports.

Anything that uses lots of active skills, like summons or traps and such is buffed as hell.

Auras are fixed with Proficiency(meta support), something tells me there will be a meta support for buff gems/curses as well.

A character would have up to 8 6-links with basic gear, uniques can raise that limit and unset rings as well.

its not 8 its 9.

youll have 4 gem slots from weapons, 2 from body armour, 1 from gloves, hat and boots for a total of 9 x 6-links on every character. 11 if you use unset rings, more than 11 if you have uniques or ascendancies that activate more slots.

What about supporting multiple active skills with a single support? Getting one level 4 enlighten is difficult enough, now we will need to get one for every aura we have socketed.

theres an aura support people are referencing that acts as a main gem and allows you to socket up to 5 auras in one link chain and gives them a reserve reduction. So you can link 4 auras + an enlighten in that 1 meta support gem and use 1 button to activate all of them at once.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)
This buffs all builds in general.
This nerfs your wallet and sanity across the board.

Most of the game is centered around a build of a single skill, which makes that unique. Now people are going to muddy the water like hell, which is probably going to attribute to exceedingly faster burnout.

Not only that, but "the struggle" was typically just needing to get 1 item 6 linked, which culminated your final destructive force. Now you basically need to 6 link half a dozen items at the minimum ....which is madness.

And then there are things like what does this do for reusing items and the economy? A 6 link starforge is always a 6 link starforge ...but a 6 link cyclone has 21+ stages of development ...which makes it exceedingly less useful to one side of the economy as it goes, and makes its value go off the charts towards the other side.

Getting a lvl 21 gem was already pretty expensive as is to a lot of people, now factor in the links. Are we going to see the economy flip? Where gear plummets in price while gems go to absurd levels? Who want's to deal with paying 6ex+ per skill gem? Or relegating yourself to knowing all your gems are just going to stay at 4-5 links.

If the game is balanced around the new system of expecting players to have 5+ links in everything ....that's really messing with the market and the general populous of players.

Hopefully they're making linking way easier to manage and do, because god help everyone in SSF.
well they said theyre aiming the odds of socketing gems so that its a similar investment to become completely 6 linked after the patch that it is now. so youll be able to get that first couple of 6 link setups a lot easier than you currently can.

The best thing about the socket/skill change, is that you'll actually be able to use the stuff you'll find while leveling. Upgrades around "every" corner, without having to throw it away because of sockets.
This was what I was thinking.

Not only that but this is going to create more of a feeling of finding something that is build enabling. If I find a special unique chest piece that I could potentially use, I can do so without needing to find a way to six link it first. Not only that, but if I find a random six linked gem on a ground, it's going to feel like I already have a completed build just laying right there.

That's great then. A few summoner nerfs and we should be having a huge upgrade all around then.

I'm interested in what they'll do to counter that kind of powercreep.

Ignore it because standard.

Tempest's Binding won't be limited to standard.
