6 links for every gear socket, this is a buff...or is it?

So, let me start by saying this system does have potential and could fix some major issues that have been present for a long time. However, other than the obvious huge unique item rebalance, there are some other concerns.

Aurabots tend to use more "active" skills (auras) than there are gear slots. Some other builds do this to a lesser degree, such as anyone running march of the legion legion boots. Are we completely doing away with aura heavy builds? Aura builds were already capped by reservation, but now it will be sockets.

Minion builds...at first this seems like a buff right? 6 linked minions everywhere LOL. However, many minion builds actually have 3+ different kinds of minions. My current one uses a physical melee crit build. That includes AG, Carrion, Zombie, Skeleton, Spectre, and Phantasm. That means I need 5 active gem slots just for my minions. A 6 socket everywhere system would give a total of 5 slots? Would unset ring be giving you yet another 6 socket?

While many builds will see a direct improvement with the new system, I wonder about builds that utilize multiple utility gems such as movement+curse+warcry+guard+buff+aura+aura

Do you think they will account for builds like these? The only thing I can think of is they could have more than 1 socket in some gear pieces...but then something like minion build could get ridiculous if there are too many slots available...

Meta supports.

Anything that uses lots of active skills, like summons or traps and such is buffed as hell.

Auras are fixed with Proficiency(meta support), something tells me there will be a meta support for buff gems/curses as well.

A character would have up to 8 6-links with basic gear, uniques can raise that limit and unset rings as well.

Walking the path since August 20th 2011.

Players and outside sources have complained alot about how in PoE you only use one movement skill and one skill to wipe out an entire screen of mobs. By allowing more 6-links, a character can specialize in basically multiple skills supported by their build. So more variety of attacks and skills you actively use per character.

Ofcourse as mentioned above, some builds that are already low on skillslots, will become more powerful. And are no longer/or less handicapped by the amount of skills you can use/carry.
What about supporting multiple active skills with a single support? Getting one level 4 enlighten is difficult enough, now we will need to get one for every aura we have socketed.

They showcased a new lower mana reservation gem(not enlighten) and linked it with multiple aura's. This allowed them to turn on multiple aura's at once. Not 100% sure how it worked, but it was showcased in the PoE2 gameplay video(if I'm not mistaken).

And you will need multiple of the same support gem for different active skills in PoE2, yes. But since you can have more 6-linked active skills, you also need more 5th and 6th slot gems anyway. You can get the skillgems for very low cost from merchants, or you could ask nicely in towns, some quests also reward gems as rewards.
The best thing about the socket/skill change, is that you'll actually be able to use the stuff you'll find while leveling. Upgrades around "every" corner, without having to throw it away because of sockets.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
It will for sure buff any build in some form.

Even if you play a Molten Striker you then can have a fully linked Ancestral Totam + fully linked Vaal Double Slash + fully linked Cast when Damage taken + what ever.

A selve cast Arcer can now fully link his Golem, maybe 1 Decoy Totem (I heared it sometimes helps ;)), Orb of Storms, etc.

Will every build profit as much as a Summoner or Golemancer? For sure not :). But any build which uses "support Skills" (not Support Gems!!) can now upgrade them from 0-3 support gems to 5 which allways will be a buff.

Pseudo links like The Tempest's Binding will become more important (I imagine that'll be a downright chase item in-league if they don't nerf it since it'll be an 8-link--also, legacy shaper/elder 1-handed caster weapons with 3 psuedo links will go through the roof in price in Standard).

I'm interested in what they'll do to counter that kind of powercreep.
