" I really like that GGG experiments with lots of different stuff. Sure sometimes you get unfun stuff like Synthesis, but it also results in some really great permanent additions to the game like Delve and helps the game grow and evolve. The general pattern I've noticed is that they will alternate between experiment leagues like this and crowd pleaser leagues like Legion. This way they can be creative and then smooth things out if the creative league doesn't turn out to be any fun. |

" Idk that seems weird from a design philosophy point of view. Intentionally putting out leagues that might be awful, when you know what your core playerbase wants, seems flawed. What if the players you alienated in Synthesis, or now Blight, dont return? Do you really think they can offset that with new players that have never heard of PoE before? I don't see it... I'm with you OP on at least sitting out this league. Just looks like another synthesis but watered down and I didn't play that league at all either. When you take the blight mechanic away, and the few changes to gems/new gems and the updated ascendancy there really isn't anything different happening. I might pop into standard here and there when the league is going on but that's about it.

Did you know; tower defense in ARPGs is actually a lot of fun? The incredible adventures of van helsing is probably one the most well known ARPGs to have a tower defense section - and it meshes with the gameplay style of a diablo like very well. So don’t crap on the mechanic just because it isn’t a S P E E D M E T A B O I S mechanic, get your head out of your butt and learn to play the game not roleplay as sonic the hedgehog. They just recycled the same league with whatever balance pivots they feel like for a given patch, cycle in new items, maybe adjust the numbers sometime, but the "League mechanic" is and always will be Breach. Breach, the whole Breach, and nothing but the Breach until the day the servers shut down. How many leagues do you give it before you get sick and tired of Breach and start pining for something new, something different, something innovative? Yeah. That's why they try things like Bestiary, Synthesis, Delve, or for that matter BREACH. Until they try something, they don't know what will stick and what won't. She/Her

" Actually its pretty much the opposite in the industry. Most game developers understand, and capitalize on what those genre gamers want. You are not shocked what you find In WoW, or Warframe, or Diablo, or CoD, ect.. I would say if you put down PoE for the previous year, and then came back to tower defense, and a shadow running around in a glowing tophat, and butterfly wings, you might wonder what the fuck happened.
