scale arc chain range with aoe

arc chain range feels pretty poopy after the nerfs. i think giving us an option to invest passive points to scale the chain range would create a pretty nice dynamic.

That would be too confusing imho, because it just cannot have the AOE tag for balance reasons.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.
It would be the same level of confusing like Blight currently has. AoE skill that deals no AoE damage.

Arc chain radius is too low, it feels wrong, additional few units of chain range are actually required.
Problem: impostor syndrome
Solution: nerf everything
Result: depressing mess
Blight is confusing, but it's just fitting within the confusing DoT system.
( they should probably add something in the description imo )

Here, that would be on a really different level, something that would be technically inconsistent with the existing systems in the game.

I'm definitely with Fruz on this one, Arc does NOT need the ability to use Conc Effect.

It is not like GGG can made exception that only area of effect increases and decreases would impact Arc and any damage increases and decreases would be ignored. There are already special cases such as spell damage applying to DOTs and few others so this could be done.

Nerfs to Arc chaining range were excessive as is common with nerfs applied by GGG. Either GGG fixes the gem or allows players to improve its chaining range via skill points or support gems, which will create some opportunity costs in case Arc need to be kept down.

It was reduced for good reason, that Arc was way too strong. Whether it could be raised a little again is a valid question, but in general when a skill is overpowered it is better to do a thorough nerf so people get weaned off it the next league.
I've been playing an Arc character this league, and haven't found it lacking...

Hidden gem tags are present in PoE since the beginning.

It seems like a good idea to have chain range scaling with AoE as usually people running Arc do not invest into AoE at all, but for the sake of better clearing, the 2pointers are usually close and it might make a difference.

Don't know why people correlate the chain mechanic having an AoE scaller wiht Conc Effect support gem.

Adding chain range scaling based on AoE (or proj speed? :D) could solve the problems with constant adjustments between leagues "it's too powerful / it's so bad"

This is absolutely crazy idea although GGG seems to follow similar reasoning... By this logic we should see major nerf to Cyclone in next league.

Arc was over-nerfed because it completely taken over meta before its nerf. It was generic go-to spell for Totems or Traps because it was solid in single-target and amazing for AOE clear. Arc was so good it could overcome shortcomings of totems and inconvenience of traps. The nerf thoroughly killed Arc for all playstyles.

If GGG adjusts Cyclone in similar manner to Arc in future, I would question why even bother with skill revamps in first place. If GGG does not nerf Cyclone, I would question why GGG felt Arc was such an outlier at that time that it required such heavy nerf when Cyclone is probably equally dominant in Legion if not more dominant than Arc ever was in its prime.

It isn't at all 'crazy'... You keep people playing longer if they get new experience (even if enforced) than if they do the same old time and time again. People playing longer means more income to keep the company and game running.

And yet... I play an arc character in this league, and it is doing well :-)
